Tammy's weight gain occurred after the birth of her third child. Sudden realization of her state urged her to do something about it - and she did. With exercise, a changed diet and phentermine, Tammy has become a more confident individual who finally feels happy with the way she is.

"I started to gain weight after the birth of my third child. That was 10 years ago and it just seemed to creep up on me and before I knew it I felt so disgusted with myself and couldn't believe I allowed myself to get the way I was. In April 2003, I finally decided to get healthy and lose the weight. I ordered a 90 day supply of Phentermine, quit drinking soda, started drinking lots of water and eating a healthy diet of high protein and moderate carbs. I incorporated exercise into my daily routine as well. I would ride my exercise bike for 14-20 miles (which takes 30-45 minutes) a day, sometimes twice a day, and I added strenghth training as well. I didn't see that I was losing weight until my oldest son told me, "Mom, you are getting skinny". I, of course as a mom, said "What do you mean?" He said, "No mom, I am serious". I gave him a big hug and said I love you, but didn't take it to heart.

A few days later I went with my daughter to buy her some softball shorts and I saw a few that I wanted to try on and as I was in a size 14, I figured I would grab a size 12, a 10, and an 8. I really thought that the 12 would fit - the 10 and the 8 was to see how far I was to moving to these sizes. To my shock the 12 and 10 were too big and the 8 was perfect! I still couldn't believe it so I went and grabbed 4 different brands of shorts/jeans (because of how different brands run different in sizes) and they all fit! Needless to say, I bought new shorts that day. It was a mental thing and when I looked in the mirror I still saw someone who was fat and overweight - until this moment! It was a real eye opener for me. I went home and took the after picture and when I saw it, I was amazed! I am now in a size 6 and about 10-14 lbs from my goal weight of 124 lbs which I hope to accomplish by my 30th birthday on January 29th."

A new lifestyle
What is the deciding factor that made you decide to change your lifestyle?
When I saw a picture of me and I hated the way I looked and felt.
What was the most difficult adjustment to your new lifestyle?
I am a big soda drinker. My husband calls me a Dr Pepper addict. I went from drinking only Dr Pepper to only drinking water. That was probably the biggest adjustment for me.
What is the most rewarding part of your new lifestyle?
Buying a new wardrobe all in a size 6 and smalls!!!
Do you have any words of advice for the community?
Drink your water at least 8-10 oz glasses a day and more if you exercise. Don't forget to eat. Not eating is as bad as eating too much!
