LeAnn's weight has always been an issue, that is, up until now. After continuously struggling with her weight, it was only recently that she became aware of the real factors that lead to a successful weight loss. With exercise, a change in her diet and phentermine, she has lost 33 lbs in 3 months, and is on the way to losing more.
"My story is probably no different from anyone else's who has tried to lose weight and failed over and over again, but this time I have found success.
My weight has been an issue my entire life. I can remember that back in the 6th grade, I weighed 160 lbs. My mother took me to our family doctor for help. She prescribed a combination of Thyroid and diet pills. Now, mind you, I did not have a thyroid problem but I guess she figured it would help speed up my metabolism and the diet pills would help curb my apetite. I was always heavy and making friend was never easy. Being made fun of and picked on was not easy. So I turned to food as my friend (which of us hasn't done that??). I lost 5 lbs a weeks and in 2 months was down to a respectful 120 lbs. Now I can't blame my failure on anyone but myself but I have one memory in particular that is burned into my brain. I ran into a boy from my class, feeling pretty good about myself, and he told me "No matter how much weight you lose, you'll still be ugly and fat!" I died inside. I don't remember how quickly I gained the weight back, but I did and could not wait until I went onto High School (all girls) and could start over with a new attitude and hoping the older kids were less cruel.
I bloomed in high school, bounced back and forth regarding my weight, but I was friendly, a class comic and made friends easily. It didn't seem to matter that I was a little heavy. I'm big boned so I can carry my large amount of weight off better than someone with a small bone structure. I graduated High school, and went on to live my life. I think I was about 220 by then.
The years went on and so did I, making friends and not worrying too much about how much I weighed. No one seemed to mind, including me. Oh, I dieted several times throughout the years and would fluctuate back and forth like a yoyo. By the time I was 24, I weighed about 260, but again, I carried my weight well so if anyone were to guess (and they did) they thought I weighed about 200. So I thought hey, I'm already 60 lbs lighter than I really am just because I look it!
The following spring, after turning 24, I was invloved in a horrific accident that left me hospitalized for 3 months and in a coma for 6 weeks. The doctor gave my family a grim outlook with the chance that I would even survive the night. I was given my last rights the evening of the accident. Needless to say, I survived!
Due to the coma and being on feeding tubes for 8 weeks, I discovered I had lost quite a bit of weight. My muscles were in state of atrophy, but the physical therapy I endured brought my strength back. Six weeks after coming out of the coma I was released to go home. I left the hospital in a wheelchair and had to use a walker for about a month until I could fully regain my strength. When I finally got the nerve to get on the scales, I discovered I had lost 40 lbs and was down to 220 lbs! I hadn't looked that good since high school and I thought how "easy" it was for me to get down to that weight. Never again, I said, will I be heavy.
The therapist and doctors fixed my broken bones and gave me strength back but no one taught me how to eat right. So, little by little (oh, it actually took no time at all) I regained my weight. I married about 2 years later. Got pregnant, (only gained a pound during pregnancy) had a healthy 8 lb 1 ounce daughter and re-discovered that I was back to my weight of 260. A year later I divorced and fell into a tailspin of depression and fear. I skyrocketed well over 300 lbs. Years later I went to my doctor who prescribed Phentermine (Phen-Fen was big then but I was only interested in the "speedy" effect my friend had told me that Phentermine has.) I was told I could eat anything and still lose weight! It sounded like a dream come true and they were right. No matter how many Big Macs, or McRibs I ate with fries I still lost weight. What they didn't tell me was unless I changed my eating habits and started exercising I would put it back on once I quit taking the drug, which is exactly what I did.
I gained back all the weight I had lost and then some. I gave up.
I got myself together mentally, re-built a life for myself and my daughter. Went back to college, earned a degree. Remarried 6 years later to a wonderful man. My weight at that point was about 280.
Well, here I am today. Still heavy, but I gained more than the weight over the last 8 or so years. I also gained a diagnosis of diabetes and high cholesterol. My doctor would encourage me to exercise and lose weight but it is much easier said than done. I've been diabetic now for quite some time and I am on 2 different kinds of diabetese meds, and a cholesterol lowering med. I am not on Insulin (yet) but I am sure it is just a matter of time.
I asked my doctor about Phentermine. He was kind of against it. Mainly because it speeds up metabolism which would increase my blood pressure and my insurance would not cover it. I did not appreciate this drug back when my Insurance DID cover it, and now it is too late. Besides, pharmacies don't carry it.
I tried to start an exercise program, like my doctor had suggested. It was a joke! I have DAILY access to an entire gym, including treadmills, bikes, arm bikes, total gyms and weights BUT I HAD NO DESIRE OR ENERGY TO START ANYTHING!
Then, one day I was surfing the internet and came upon a website that offered Phentermine via mail! Oh my God, no way!! It was a bit expensive, but if I could get back on my Phentermine I swore I would do it right this time. I filled out the questionnaire, ordered a 90 day supply, charged it to my account and within 3 days had those pretty little white and blue specked pills back in my possession.
I went to my doctor for my 3 month diabetes check up, and hesitated telling him about the pills. My husband urged me to let him know, especially becase it would raise my blood pressure. Besides, even if he told me that he did not want me to take the pills I would anyway. "I know what these pills can do for me!" I told him. And I swore that I would only use the 90 day supply and then quit. Besides, I told him, the outcome HAS to be better than being obese. He reluctantly gave me his o.k. but urged me to check my blood pressure regularly and stop taking the pills immediately if I ever experienced any "major" symptoms (he gave me a list).
I started taking the Phentermine on the 13th of December, on the 14th I awoke early in the morning (really early) and had energy to burn! I went to the gym and started slowly on everything!. I started walking a 1/2 mile in 10 minutes, before I knew it I was doing it in less than 7 minutes. I started slowly on the bike, each week increasing my resistance and distance, and the same on the arm bike. I started lifting weights and doing exercises to build my muscles at 2 lbs each arm, now I am up to 7 lbs. On the total gym I started doing 3 sets of 10 leg squats at 50 lbs. I am now up to 10 sets of 10 at 150 lbs.
I work out 6 days a week. Doing cardio everyday and lifting weights every other day. I have lost 20 lbs in 5 weeks and have lost 15 inches!!!
This is the best I have felt in a long time. Fast food has not touched my lips in 5 weeks and I don't crave sweets any longer! My blood pressure, at last check, was 122/78. I have discontinued one of my diabetic meds because my sugars were running too low. I eat small portions three times a day, but snack on granola bars throughout the day to keep my sugar from diving too low.
I do need to drink more water (I was never really a water drinker), and I honestly believe that after I am off the phentermine I will still continue to live this new lifestyle. I plan on weaning myself off the pills in about a month. Never quit cold turkey! Your body can't handle that kind of change.
I am excited to see what my doctor says when I go back in 2 months for my check up. I am hoping she will let me discontinue my other diabetic med and get off my cholesterol medication too. I think I can now control my diabetes through diet and exercise.
I'll let you all know how I am in another month, gotta go exercise right now. I'm up to 2 hours a day 6 days a week and loving it. The one day I don't exercise my body misses it, so I go out to a nightclub with my frineds that evening and get my exercise from dancing! Not to mention the attention I am getting from my husband now (and the looks I am getting from the men at the club!!!) I feel great!

The medication is awesome, but you should only take it if you are serious about changing your lifestyle. Don't expect it to be a quick fix, because you'll only be hurting yourself.
