"Weight has always been an issue for me because I grew up overweight. When I started highschool, I was very comfortable being in a size 12 jeans. I never thought about my weight again till my junior year. I changed from being on birth control to the depo shot which stopped my periods. The shot had very intense side effects such as weight gain, change in mood, bloating, hair loss, cramping. I gained over 40 pounds within 7 months of being on it.
I was devastated by the way I looked and felt about my body. I couldn't take not being able to wear my old clothes and looking huge in everything I wore. I was very self conscious.
I didn't do anything about it till this past year when my neighbour was on phentermine and lost over 40 pounds. She encouraged me to take it because it made her feel so much better about herself. I didn't like the whole weight loss pill thing but I did give it a chance. I started taking it on April 3rd, 2009 and since then, it has changed my life forever.
I feel better about life in general. I started walking daily, I gave up mountain dew and all the junk food. I knew I had to change my eating habits and start working out. I have more energy than I've ever had in a while. I walk usually 3 or 4 times a week.
Since April, I've lost about 40 pounds and I'm still not done. I wanna lose about 60-80 pounds. I've never told anyone how much I orginially weighed but why be ashamed of it now? I think I look amazing but if I can lose this much, I know I can lose even more.
It's very hard and you have to motivate yourself to keep on working hard and stay away from the bad foods."

A new lifestyle
What is the deciding factor that made you decide to change your lifestyle?
I was tired of being fat and unhealthy. I was on the border line of being diabetic and I didn't want to spend the rest of my life with that disease. I knew I had to change and I needed to do it as soon as possible.
What was the most difficult adjustment to your new lifestyle?
Giving up foods that I really enjoyed.
What is the most rewarding part of your new lifestyle?
Having my life back and not being so close to having high blood pressure or diabetes.
Do you have any words of advice for the community?
Don't ever give up on your weight-loss. If you have come this far, don't let go. The pill helped me get my life back and made me realize I was beautiful not only on the outside, but on the inside.
