It is a central nervous system stimulant that suppresses appetite, boosts energy and helps you achieve your weight loss goals. This medication is intended as a short-term (3 month) treatment and is only available with a doctor's prescription. Below are reviews of both generic and brand-name phentermine, written by real phentermine users.

I started on July 1st so I'm two weeks in now. This stuff is amazing, I have to remind myself to eat and I am energetic all day, cleaning and moving around like I can't sit still. So far I lost 8lbs, hoping to lose about 50lbs by the end of this round of 3 months. I get some insomnia, more waking up at 4am than not being able to sleep, so I take a nap when I get in from work and I'm good to go. And the dry mouth is ok because then I drink more water Read less

These worked great for me, I got to my goal of 150 after starting out at 195, my highest weight ever after having my daughter. I took the 37.5mg pills, split in half so I took one in the morning and one before lunch. I had insomnia at the start so my doctor said to just take the morning half and then start taking the second half after 2 weeks. I still got some insomnia as well as headaches and dry mouth but the phen helped me with eating better and controlling portions. I'm finishing off my last pack now, taking half a pill every second day and my weight is in check so far, I just hope it lasts when I finish! Read less

Generic phentermine (capsules) - Worked but not great

I was on the 30mg capsules for 3 months and lost about 35lbs, going from 270 to 235 so I still need to lose some. I expected to lose more, maybe not all of it but 50lbs at least. I started walking and doing some lifting, cut my portions in half, I didn't feel hungry at first but then the hunger came back but I tried hard to keep with the plan. My doctor says I can try them again in a couple months so I'd like to go for it. Since I came off I feel hungry like I did before and less energy, so I guess it was working but I'm not feeling very motivated to carry on now Read less

I love this medication. I am 48 years old, I have three children, and work full-time. I have always been thin, and been able to cut back slightly on calories and exercise more, and easily drop 5 pounds if I needed to. Getting older, I started to take Paxil because of my panic attacks. The Paxil worked great for my panic attacks, but after three years of taking it, I had put on about 10 to 15 pounds. I think it was because I was not nervous all the time, and over time that adds to less calories burned and less activity throughout the day. Also, just getting older, my metabolism slowed down. So, I cut back on the paxil from 20 mg to 10 mg, About four months ago I started taking phentermine. I have dropped 15 pounds. I am 5 foot nine and weigh approximately 150 pounds. I had gotten up to 168 pounds at one time, which is an all-time high for me. I love that I have energy to take care of all of the responsibilities I have during the day, but I am not nervous nor does it cause my panic attacks to come back. I do not want to stop taking this medication, because I feel it helps me focus and just gives me great energy. Also, I am able to cut back on eating and continue my workouts, and this addition of this pill has caused my weight to drop like it used to do when I would eat less and exercise more. I eat relatively healthy and I exercise five days a week, but for some reason my body was not losing weight would not budge until I started the phentermine. Read less

I took phentermine before and the weight came off easy even though I didn't exercise, but then I gradually started putting it on again as soon as I came off. This time I'm doing it right - the smart way. Exercise, which is something I now love, especially zumba and I even started running too - never thought I'd be the one on the treadmill at the gym never ever. I'm losing 1-2lbs a week and I lost body fat too, all of my old clothes are huge on me, and I feel great. I have about 10lbs left to go but I am in no hurry. I eat sensible, still have treats, still eat carbs - they are essential, low carb makes you weak, miserable and forgetful, I know because I did it. I still weigh my food and plan ahead. I get dry mouth at the start, some headaches, insomnia a lot - phentermine isn't a solution, it's an aid but if you use it right it can help so much. Read less

Generic phentermine (pills) - no appetite, but losing weight slowly

My doctor is prescribing me phentermine 37.5 the pills for 3 months. I got to my weigh in last week and I lost 7lbs in the first month. She asked what I eat and said I need to eat more as I wasn’t eating breakfast, just an apple or sandwich for lunch and then dinner. My appetite decreased a lot at the start but then it would come back and I would crave sweets. Not sure what to eat. I have a fitbit to track steps so I am going to start 10,000 steps per day to increase weight loss. I have more energy, but really bad insomnia – one night I was up until 4am just wishing for sleep then slept for about an hour before I had to get up for work. I want to lose 35lbs so I hope I lose weight faster this month. Read less
