    Default Wrapping Casted Leg!

I recently had foot surgery. I'll tell you exactly what my doctor told me. I couldn't get my foot wet for about 4 weeks.

What you need: 2 trash bags, Thick rubberband, washcloth.

    Step into 1 trash bag.
Wrap a washcloth or small hand towel around the leg, just above where cast starts.
Get a THICK rubberband and put leg through it
Stop when you feel the washcloth under the trashbag and keep rubberband there (the washcloth will protect from any water AND keep rubberband from hurting)

Take a 2nd trash bag and put it on the same way, but this time you don't need another washcloth. Just rubberband in the same spot as the 1st one.

    Hope this helps.!

Oh yeah......He was away at grandma's and playing on trampoline with cousins. Cousin had on BOOTS and jumped and came down on his ankle. Poor guy. And to top it off, grandma and grandpa down played his ankle saying "oh it's fine. Just bruised but swelling is gone". 4 yes 4 days later, he comes home and you can't even see his ankle it's so swollen. Took him to ER immediately. I'm very upset at them for saying he's fine and making him live like that for 4 days. He's fine now...very upset that he has to be in cast though!!! Can't play football now. Thanks for any suggestoins!!!!
If I am not mistaken there is some body shampoo that can be used on people who are invalids and can't wash regularly. I think this is used on people who are camping as well. Try: http://www.internet-grocer.net/no-rinse.htm

The bright side, he'll get a lot of attention from other kids at school! Send him with lots of markers. LOL

that's so awful ! i dont have any kids but I broke my right ankle @ age 7 too . I fell off my bike tho. My mom thought it was just swollen too, but they took me to the hospital right away & it was definitely broken. But anyways, if I can remember, I think my parents had to bathe me for those 8 wks in the bathtub, with my leg being propped up on the side so it wouldnt get wet, and also help me out . I hope ur son feels better But on the bright side, everyone in my class was very friendly when I had my cast and everyone wanted to sign it lol.
The proof is in the pics!!! <3

    Starting over again!!!!

I have way too much experience where this is concerned. With 4 children (2 of which are rowdy boys), we've had more than our share of casts. Unfortunately, if it is a leg, a bath is going to be as good as it gets. Just have him sit in the tub and hang that leg out the side. He might have to sit on a stool to raise himself up high enough to hang the leg out. The only other thing to try is to put a garbage bag over the leg and tape it off around the top with duct tape. You will have to get the tape on the skin and it will hurt like a sonofa... when it comes off. And, you might still end up with a wet cast. And if you think he stinkls now, wait till he gets that cast wet. I say opt for the bath. It's your safest bet. Good luck!
