This is why I encourage people to shop at Goodwill... and yes Dbeth.. you are right you can get some items cheaper, brand new at other locations. I have had to explain this to people before... but the revenue we generate is going for an awesome cause. YOUR $$$ is helping someone! And we truly appreciate it.
Goodwill Industries (Goodwill) is one of the world’s largest nonprofit providers of education, training, and career services for people with disadvantages, such as welfare dependency, homelessness, and lack of education or work experience, as well as those with physical, mental and emotional disabilities.
Me personally, at my location have gotten 4 individuals off of Welfare. They no longer depend on the Cash Aide. The do still recieve Medi-cal and Food Stamps, but I feel very successful knowing these individuals work for a living..even if they still recieve some assistance. How I was able to do this with these individuals was with your $$$. You shop at my Store, I have the chance to hire someone and train them.. in the end.. one less person on Welfare. GO ME!!!
Also, for 9 months out of the year, I have 12 Developmentally Disabled Adults who are in a program called TIL (Transition to Independent Living) work in my store. In the 9 months, we train them how to do all tasks that my Regular employees do. After they Graduate from the program, they are hireable individuals. In fact, 2 of my students that just graduated are now working for a Target and a total of 4 of my past students have been hired by Goodwill.
So with this being said, YOU shopping at Goodwill really makes a difference in someone's life. PLUS if you don't want to shop thier, you can always donate thier. Donations help just as much as shopping... SO many people aren't educated about Goodwill... but I find that after someone realizes what we do... and who we serve, they view us in a whole new perspective.
Look it's my day off and I am talking about the Goodwill. Man, I love my job and the people I serve!
