Im not sure if this is the forum to place this in, but I wanted to share my "mini success" with you all. Let me tell you a little about how its all come to this point....
May 16th I turned 32...yes 32. Although I felt like I was over 50. My son who is an 8 year old ball of energy (what 8 year old isnt) wanted to sit on my lap while I ate my piece of cake. my stomach was so big that he couldnt fit. There were lots of friends around and I made the excuse that he was too heavy to sit on my lap from being such a big boy. Inside my stomach started to churn as it finally hit me. I cant even hold my son on my lap anymore. What have I done to myself. That night I vowed to change this and to someday have my son sit on my lap without problems. On top of all of this..I had lost mychildhood friend to a pulmonary embolism only 3 days before. She and I went from daycare at the age of 2 through college together. Her husband said her weight was a major factor in her death. We were the same weight at the time.
The next week I went in to see my doctor. We talked about weigh loss and we developed our own version similar to Atkins, but healthier. My job on the military base gives me free access to the 7 gyms on the post all fully equppied with weights, treadmills, classes, etc. I started going 6 days a week (which I continue until this day) and following my strict diet. I didnt start phen until the end of June after hitting a plateau with my doctors suggestion. I had been on it before, after the birth of my son for a few weeks.
As of today, Im 36 pounds lighter. This morning...my son hugged me and said "Mommy, I can get my hands all the way around you now! Let me see if I can sit on your lap!!" I sat in the same chair as I did on my birthday...and...he fit!
He gave me a big hug and told me how proud of me he was. Im all teary eyed....all the hard work and sacrifice (me giving up Oreos is a sacrifce! lol) are paying off.
Thanks for letting me share!
Sharon

Hi - I am so excited for you! Your post made me also teary-eyed! I am a "newby" and your post was an encouragement to me. I have a young grandson and I know he is not going to fit on my lap unless I do something now. Anyway, your post was an encouragement! Thanks!

Thanks everyone. I have been doing this for about 2 months. I just dont understand why I didnt do this before. What was it that was stopping me? I think about that everytime I see another pound come off.

Congrats on being able to enjoy having your child sit on your lap again. As a mother of both a 5 and a 3 year old, I know how important Mommy's lap is to them. Not to mention how important it is to us mothers to be able to read to and rock our kids to sleep in the comfort of our lap.

I tried Atkins, but it was a little too extreme for me. Will you please share your version of Atkins? I'm open to trying just about anything (except surgery) to lose weight.

With the version of Atkins that Im doing...I do follow the induction for the first 2 weeks. I cut out red meat and pork. I also do not eat anything white or processed. But I do eat fruit...in moderation.

Shanron, I am really touched by your sharing. I am glad I "drop-in" this page today and saw this. I am a mother too and really love the feeling of having my boys sitting on my lap while watching tv. It was also during one of those lap-sitting sessions that my younger boy pinch my "spare tyre" around my waist...
Well Congrats on your loss of 36 lbs and make sure you keep that gym sessions. I have no access to gym (too far away) and hope you will continue to make good use of them. Phen really help at times but still it is a short-term kind of stuff. Cheers!
