I always wondered how I got so big because we've always eaten healthily but I think it was the 'treats' on top of the otherwise healthy diet that did the damage. I kidded myself that I was exercising enough because as a mum, you're always running around. The thing was that I never pushed myself and got hot and sweaty! I work out 2 to 3 times a week now on my elliptical stepper for an hour each time and I walk everywhere now instead of driving (where possible)I used to drive the kids to school/quick errands to the local store/ parties etc and now we walk, back and forth, every day, rain or shine! It's good for all of us and hopefully it's helping them form a good level of fitness for when they're adults.
Planning meals is getting easier as time goes by. I invent new combinations of foods all the time. For example, if I make spaghetti bolognese, I have the sauce only, on a bed of green beans or spinach and mushrooms instead of pasta... If doing chinesey meal, I'll have it on salad instead of rice... It's fine once you get used to it and more than worth it when 'weigh-day' comes round each week.
