I use to think that the only people who would want to live/work in NY were money hungry, a-moral people. I now have a new respect for ALL New Yorkers. I never disliked those who choose to live there, just never understood wanting to live where you have to crowd your way down the street and were it seemed everyone was out for themselves. But in light of the last two months and now again today I see how a city with such a vast of people CAN indeed pull together and help one another out. So to all my fellow Americans who live in NY my prayers are with you all as you continue to struggle through recent happenings.
May God bless you, Jennifer

Amen Abbigrace, Amen. I use to have this image of New York where, if you were laying on the sidewalk close to death, people would just step right over ya to get to where they want to go. Not any more! My prayers, also, go out to those whose loved ones lost their lives in today`s horrible tragety. Five infants were on that plane~too heartbreaking to even think about..........

I think you were both terribly wrong about what you thought New York was about.

Firstly please don't forget NY is an incredibly interesting and beautiful mixture of people from all over the world! There are very few people who actually were born and stayed in NY. If I were to fall on the ground I would hope it would be NY because I can tell you the person who would help would not judge me by anything other than the fact that I needed help!

I couldn't agree more with ITSUPTOU2! My sister has lived in NYC for the past 11 years, which means I visit there frequently. I've lived my entire life on the opposite coast, (in Oregon) and it's interesting that the only people who seem to believe in this "cold-hearted" view of what NYC is, are generally those who have never been there. Believe me, I was also under the impression of those stereo types before I spent time there and was a bit nervous to go there at first. Let me tell you, I could not have been more wrong. My first trip to NYC was back in 1995 and there have been many since. It is unlike any other place in the world and you will never see more cultures, art,the very best theater, amazing restaurants, and excitement in any other place in America. The people are strong and kind and I would never hesitate to ask a total stranger for help. You'd recieve it....in abundance. Go to New York City. Experience this generous, romantic, historical, alive, one of a kind place for yourselves. Especially now, as NYC needs the tourists more than ever. Don't subscribe to stereo types.....learn for yourself and then decide how you feel. Bravo to those of you who started this topic, who have changed your views, and who continue to share your feelings about America's most happening city.

All my best,

Belladonna

Dear Bella:
Truer words were never spoken or put to type so elequently!

Thank you!!!!!!! I am the few who did grow up in NY well actually about 10 miles away in beautiful Forest Hills Queens. I ALWAYS felt safe in the "city" no matter what time it was !!
My husband and I had an apartment over a restaurant on 73rd Street...if I couldn't sleep I would walk down to a bench outside this great seafood restaurant and it was as if it were the middle of the day. I felt MUCH safer there at 2:00 a.m. than I did in the Burbs where I am now!

WE LOVE NEW YORK!!!!!!!
