The woman who is to become my sister-in-law on Saturday was on her way into the building right next door to the WTC. Just as she was walking in, the 1st plane struck, as debris and mayhem ensued all around, an older man, a total stranger, grabbed Kathleen by the hand and they started running away from the scene. When they had gone a safe (?) distance, he was able to get a cab. He basically stuffed Kathleen into the cab, threw a handful of money at the driver and told him, "Get her out of here!"
I don't have the words.
I haven't spoken to Kathleen personally but apparently she is quite shaken. She saw things none of us ever want to see or ever should see.
My sister, Andrea, her fiance, Greg and my aunt Nancy all work in the city and none of them were nearby when this happened.
All flights in Denver are cancelled for now. We were supposed to fly out tomorrow at 3:30. I pray that we will get there in time for Saturday's wedding. But even if we don't, I thank God that Kathleen's life was spared.
As I'm sure all of you did, I spent the majority of this day near the TV in prayer and tears.
I pray none of you have a personal connection to this tragedy. The common connection of being human is tough enough.
Love and Blessings-
Audrey
