OK, my immediate family is safe, although my hubbie is stuck in Manhattan for awhile and I can't get through to the brother who works nearby, but my sister says he ran north as it was happening and is safe.

I couldn't get through to my husband for 2 hours and I was near hysteria--I thought I was going to be a widow--on my birthday, no less. I was sobbing on the phone to my mother who was saying, "Turn off the TV! Get involved in a project!" I love my mother...she can make me feel lazy & unproductive in the midst of a terrorist action...and then my husband called & I was no longer a widow. So, honey, what's for dinner? Did you pick up the dry-cleaning?

I live in a "commuter suburb" outside of Manhattan & I am sure someone from my town, some Mom or Dad works in lower Manhattan who might be dead or critically injured and their kids are in school right now, not knowing. I called the after-school program at my son's elementary school (we live down the block from the school) & left word that we can watch kids after 6PM when the program shuts down if their parents still haven't been able to get out of Manhattan.

Anyone who lives in the areas that were hit--around NYC, the Pentagon, Pennsylvania should think about what they can do to help--in any small way--think of kids who's parents might be late, donate blood at the Red Cross, see if local hospitals need help, whatever comes to mind.

And when you see your kids and your spouse (who I used to refer to as the DH) hug them hard & be careful when you explain to the kids what happened--it's confusing.

My heart aches for all those who still haven't heard from loved ones.

I so agree with you here! I've been crying all morning & thinking about how lucky we are to have each other and our families. We should do anything possible to help. God Bless.

Thank you for this forum.

Still crying,

Sugar

I am so glad that your family is o.k. and I am happy to hear that you have volunteered to watch the kids whose parents can't get home right now. God bless you.

sugar pie you are so right, we should all be thinking of how we can unite together and help each other. I don't know what I can do being in Missouri, but give blood. Which I will certainly go and do.

God bless you all, keep your prayers coming

I am in the Philippines (12 hours ahead) I would not even known if I hadn't been taking this stuff. I should be asleep. My husband is back there for a convention and was flying Pitsburg to Kansas city. I was in a frenzy. Who wants to be a widow with four at 30? I have since learned that he is on the ground and he made his destination. Praise the Lord. Yes my first response was very selfish but I am conserned about the widow/ers and children. Yes indeed I will be praying for them. It conforts me to know that the Lord is in control. But this seemingly awful event is already glorifying the Lord. When America as a nation pulls together to give it's time and resources to help, care for, and support the victims and their families it will bring glory to His name. People will become selfless! I only wish i could be there to give of myself in such service. I will pray for them but also for you. For strength and guidance and a giving selfless spirit. God help us all!

I absolutely agree with everything that has been said. This is truly the darkest hour in American history. Fiddle, I can't imagine what you were going through in those 2 hrs. of not knowing....that's my worst nightmare. I'm so glad your husband is o.k. I, too, pray for the victims, the families and all of America.

Angry
fiddle, I'm so glad that your family is okay.

I just happened to turn on the tv right after the first airplane struck and immediately called my father. My brother use to work in the Merrill Lynch bldg. right next the the World Trade Center, and very luckily he was promoted to the bldg. across the river. And my entire family was also on their hands knees this morning, this same brother was suppose to be in the north World Trade tower at 9:30am for a meeting. Instead, he and his fellow employees watched this terrorist attack unfold.

While my heart hurts for everyone for we are all victims, I am also very angry. I want President Bush to help these people get their justice. I know that the President is doing all that he can but we CANNOT allow these cowards get away with hurting our People.

Okay, I'm off of my soap box, and I apologize if I hurt anyone's feelings, but my heart is aching for all of my fellow Americans. Today is my grandfather's 92nd birthday, what a way to remember it.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the people who live or work in New York, DC and PA areas or have family members in these areas, especially the children who have lost their parents.

My God Bless Everyone, and give your immediate family members big hugs and kisses and tell them how much you love them.

Most Sincerely,

Peachy

Fid -
I am so glad to hear your family is okay. I was able to reach my sister by cell phone after about an hour and a half. She is safe at home. Her roommate was coming out of the subway when she looked up and saw a plane hitting the building where she's employed... the World Trade Center. She is okay, though very shaken -- deservedly so.

My heart goes out to all of you who may have friends or family in the middle of this horrific tragedy.

Fid, I don't know about you, but this is definitely one birthday that I wish wouldn't go down in the history books. I used to joke with an old boyfriend that my birthday is on 9-1-1, so he'd better not forget. Well, now this joke isn't funny.
