For those of you who have posted here about experiencing hair loss from taking phen, once you ceased taking it did your hair eventually restore?

I've been digging around the forum but have not been able to find a thread that tells about hair loss reverse after stopping the drug.

    Thanks!

Hi. My mother lost hair from lack of nutrition when dieting about ten years ago. Her eyelashes fell out, as did her eyebrows, and she lost hair in two patches on either side of her forehead. The eyelashes grew back, but that's it. Her doctor said that she had stayed on Atkins too long, and that that was one of the negative effects of Atkins. That and a leathery appearance to the skin and bad breath. Even if you're trying to cut carbs, make sure you don't go overboard with it.

Thank you for this. Anyone else out there with experience in reversing the hair loss situation after stopping phen?

This has become a very important issue for me.

    Thanks again

Has anyone besides Campbell had a problem with hair loss? Last March i had my gallbladder removed and two months later my hair started falling out by the handfuls. My dermatologist diagnosed me with something called Telegen Afluvium (hair loss.) i lost at least 50% of my hair. And if that wasn't bad enough. i was just recovering from it, when i had a colonoscopy and one regular and one precancerous polyp were removed. i broke open and bled internally and was hospitalized for 4 days. Two months later the hair loss started all over again. i went through the 6 month cycle again and thought it was over. i will be attending my 30 year class reunion on September 9, 2006 and needed to lose about 20 pounds. i have been struggling with my weight ever since i went through menopause prematurly because of chemotherapy for breat cancer in 1994. i went through menopause at age 36. So now i've had my hair all fall out because of chemo, but it came back beautifully, then my hair thinned a tiny bit because of the menopause, then tons fell out from the gallbladder surgery and anesthesia, then again with the hemmoraging (trauma to the body.) Now it seems to be falling out again, but not quite as heavily as with the two bouts with Telegen Afluvium. It never occured to me that the Phen might be doing it. If that's the case, it ends today!! i can't afford to lose anymore hair. My hairline has moved back an entire 1/2 in in the front and thinned horribly everywhere else. Now, i am left with about 1/3 - 1/4 the hair i originally had. My fear is that because of my post menopausal state and having no estrogen that my hair will never recover. It keeps me upset most of the time. i am stopping the Phen today to see what happens and have an appointment with my dermatologist next week. i will talk to him about it then. Actually, i may put a call in to him today and ask about it. Please, has anyone else experienced hair loss after taking this pill?

i have two other issues i would like to address as well. The reason i found this site in the first place was that i am having trouble with EXCESSIVE perspiration. i thought, at first, that it was just me and the menopause, but today when i was at a physical therapy appointment, there were much older women than myself there and they were even breaking a sweat. The other problem is constantly feeling angry, annoyed and upset about everything. Has anyone had either of these problems? i should have known, there's no such thing as a free lunch and the Phen was working SOOOO well, it was too good to be true. i recommended it to two of my friends. Well, i'm stopping the Phen today and we'll see what happens. i've got 5 weeks until my class reunion, if i can get this hair loss at least stopped i can still look decent for my reunion. If it keeps going, i'll need a wig. i'll keep you posted.

How long were you taking the Phen before you noticed hair loss? How badly did it fall out? Did you stop taking the the pill? Has you hair started coming back and if so, how long did it take before it started coming back?

My hair is falling out in the handfulls. I was told by my DR. to get a good vitamin with mineral in it. It has seemed to help a little.
My hair problem may also be from my thyroid, because I have been so cranky and tired lately that I think my thyroid needs rechecked and possibly have my meds increased.

    Hi everyone,

Count me in as someone who's losing hair after starting phentermine in February. It took about 3 months but then the hair just started falling out like crazy. I just have to run my hand through my hair and I come up with lots of hair. I even have to brush my hair over a garbage can or box or something because so much falls out I don't want it all over the floor. Even the vacuum cleaner rollers are plugged up with my hair (it's long). I think I'll have to stop the phentermine because I don't want to continue going bald. I don't see any signs of the hair loss lessening up at all. Very sad but it's probably better to get off the phentermine in the long run, anyway.

Here too - but so far not this time around ... it was about 10 years ago and I did the Phen / Fen and after 3 months ... it started coming out in shower ... then when styling etc.

It did come back - as for how long it took ... I don't know, but I do know it wasn't too long after I stopped I noticed that it did stop falling out.

    Hope that helps.

I'm no doctor, by any means and I would suggest consulting with yours, but heres what I do know, I hope it can help:

Hair loss and dieting - unfortunately can and at times do go hand in hand. Phentermine doesn't list alopecia as a side effect because technically... its not the Phentermine that is causing the hair loss.

When it comes to hair loss while dieting the first thing I would suggest, look at your diet. Are you taking a multi vitamin every day to ensure your maintaining proper levels with the necessary vitamins (b, c, etc). Are you getting enough calories in would be my second question, and my third question would be how rapid is your weight loss.

Rapid weight loss causes hair loss. Your hair folicles tend to weaken and break off and this can slow the regrowth of lost hair, but rarely does it completely stop it. More often than not, your hair will grow back. But I would suggest just taking a look at whats going on.

Check up on your weight loss, perhaps grab a multi vitamin, and ensure your getting enough calories in - and that they're the right ones (aka healthy). If your nutrition is good and your taking a daily vitamin and its still occurring then I would definitely follow up with a doctor to ensure there arent any other underlying problems.

But like I said, those that have lost hair - it should grow back and it technically isnt the phentermine but the nutritional and weight loss aspect of it (the two kind of go together as if you lose weight rapidly, you also run the risk of depleting vitamins essential to your body's health)

... I hope that helps, and best of luck to you.

    Hi

I have to say that I have been experiencing severe hair loss in the last 3-4 months. Because I had so much hair and my hair was really thick, when it first started dropping, it didn't really phase me. Then I realised the amount of hair falling out everytime I washed my hair was just NOT normal. After my shower, I would have a huge handful of hair that fell out. Then after drying my hair I would get up and find my hair All over the floor all around me. Now this started to scare me a little. It was not until a month or so ago that I really started to freak out coz I could actually see my scalp through my hair when the light shone on my head.

I started taking vitamins and went for hair treatments and the hair just kept falling in huge amounts. It wasn't till last weeek that I decided to stop Phen but it is still too soon to see if it will stop the hair from falling. All I know is I have been having continuous severe headaches from the day I stopped and today when I went to see my doc, he said my blood pressure is High. 120/100. I have always had low blood pressure throughout my life and to suddenly hear it is high is really puzzling. Sigh!

I don't know what I should do now. To take or to not take Phen.... that is the question.
