I just started taking Phen a week ago and I'm having the strangest side-effects.

First off, there is what seems to be a lump in my throat. It did show up until I started taking the medication. I also have this urge to clear my throat a lot. Second, I seem to be having slight trouble breathing. Third, I just seem to be feeling really odd. My body doesn't seem like it should, if that makes sense. And forth, I've had strange pains run through my body, which didn't happen before I started taking the medication.

I've taken this medication before, but never had any of those symptoms. I'm curious as to if others have had similar side-effects from this.

I'm taking 37.5mg right now, but I can't remember what I took before. I'm really concerned about the effects this drug could have on my heart and lungs. I'm 23 and I'm overweight, but I really had rather be hungry most of the time than to take this pill and put myself into an early grave.

If you are that concerned I think it best that you call your Dr in the morning and see what he says about....
It could very well be some side effect that you are haveing....

I started yesterday on the 37.5 and I took felt VERY VERY strange. Just not right. I also felt tingling in my legs and feet, and i was extremely naueous. I also was only able to sleep 4 hours. So today I only took half, and I feel much better no side effects. Maybe you need to half it too.

Finally i found someone with the same problem. I myself am having the weird lump in my throat. I have been taking it for two weeks now and it is working great (lost 13lbs so far) but over the last few days i have a lump in my throat, makes me feel like my throat is closing up and i have to clear my throat all the time. Also had some leg cramps which i have never had before. I had heard about the dry mouth but the lump in my throat was worrying me. Does it go away?

If your on the 37.5 tablet,some people have had reactions to the binder in the pill,I would talk to your doc about it,leg cramps can be because your potassium or calcium levels could be low,a mutivitamin will help with that.

I've had the weird throat thing too and I've been on it for five days. A little nausea but no actual pains. Each body will react differently to medicines but if you are worried call your doctor.

I have the same issue.............the lump is from a swollen esophagus.........the throat clearing is from thick saliva created to coat your throat from the ACID! Phen does, in alot of people, cause reflux and it is not always from the binding, but alot of times it is......and the not breathing right- sort of like asthma- is the acid washing in your lungs. I would bet... if you have not yet.......you will have a burning sensation in the roof of your mouth, ear pain and a bit of post nasal drip.............I have an ulcer in my duodenium from phen. BUT,this is all treatable.and after a while off phen for your throat to heal.........phen usually can be continued... if monitored close.You need to go to the doctor........he will know its reflux usually given the symptoms.You will a need PPI such as nexium or Aciphex..possibly twice a day till it heals... your doctor will know best there and 1 a day for an extended period afterward till the reflux is controlled.Also takiing Mylanya ULTIMATE liquid will help the acid stay in your stomach this is my MAIN life saver!!!!because it creates a sort of cap on your stomach contents to keep the fluids from refluxing.They can STILL reflux into your lungs sinus cavity and throat ,even though the acid is neutralized.Go to a doctor for this............this is dangerous....but for relief today, get the mylanta and chug it. ALSO, some benadryll and motrin will reduce the swelling and inflamation in your throat and esophagus.and PUSH the water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!this is very scarey cause you can feel like you can't swallow and your throat is closing..like it is paralized... it is just swollen and immobile..if you can't get to doc asap.go to walmart and get prilosec OTC maxium strength...........take 2 that is about the dosage strength of 1 nexium..............I am so sorry when this happens to peole on phen ..I almost feel i should keep a warning thread going.......................lol hope you feel better

I started taking phen 4 days ago. The first day I had alot of energy and felt fine as far as side effects go, and everyday since then has been okay. Today I had a busy day at work, and did not get a chance to take a lunch. When i was driving home, I started feeling odd, as if not like myself like described. Then I felt the lump in my throat. It scared me. Five hours later, the lump is still there, not as pronounced as it was to begin with. Should I take my morning dose, or wait to talk with my doc?

hello everyone,

i too have been taking phentermine for about 5 or so days, and my throat has the "lump" in it. it has been there for about 3 of the 5 days i've been taking phen, each day getting progressively worse.

today has been the worst day of the 5 days, and my throat is in pain. not a sharp pain, but an aching pain...and it feels puffy, or swollen.

i am going to my regular doctor, as i paid a specialist for an appointment, and it was almost 100.00! i cannot afford to go back to him just for a regular checkup, so i am going to go to my regular doctor.

i don't think i am going to continue with the medication, because in addition to the throat issue, my heartbeat becomes superfast with the smallest amount of physical activity. at this rate, i would not be able to exercise (i walk the treadmill 2.0 miles 3 days per week) because my heartbeat becomes outrageously fast. i do not want to wind up in the hospital.

i'm happy i found this forum, perhaps i can find weightloss help another way. i lost 4 lbs on the phen already, but ugh. i am not happy at all with it's side effects.

WOw! I thought I was going crazy, searching for this side effect on the net, and i'm so glad to hear that other people have it too (but sorry for you too!!!)! I'm a vegetarian but have been eating animal products to get the protein my doc requires, but after 3 weeks I can't stand it and my doc switched me to beans and grains a week ago, and since then I have had a feeling like I can feel the air I breathe pass over the back of my throat. My throat looks bumpy, too, and it hurts. I swallow all the time, and I feel "pressure" on the back of my throat that encourages me to press the front of my throat against the back of my throat. I also have been burping a little, and I have heart burn. I took some of the pink stuff for heart burn (can't remember the name, but you know, it's the PINK stuff) and I guess I got sick from it and threw it up, which probably explains why my throat is much worse today. I'm going to make an appointment with my doc tomorrow!

How long does this last??? I'm seriously thinking of stopping the Phen as this is very undesirable for me and annoying. I feel like I need to throw up and can't. Is there something that will make this stop or will I have to give it time?

I posted my reply about the side effects mentioned on the 17th of June. Now, the 6th, i have none of the side effects that i had in the first week. I know everyone's body is different, but by about the middle of the second week I didn't feet that beside myself feeling, or the lump in my throat, or the nausia. I was very close to stopping the med, and now i am so excited i didn't. Hope everyone's side effects pass. Good Luck.
