    Exclamation Concern.....

I have been on Phentermine 30mg since May 2007. I go to a weight loss clinic to get my meds. Never had any major side effects using the medication. I've successfully lost 45pounds.

My boyfriend saw the results of the medication and started taking the same dosage as me in Jan 2008. he is 25 & in good health. At first things were going great for him & nothing seemed wrong. Within the past month I have noticed a lot of recent changes with his outlook on things and his attitude. He generally is a laid back, patient person. Never really lets anything bother him & usually a happy person. I have noticed the complete opposite lately. He is short tempered, moody, shuts out everyone, has a lot of anger as well as always tired. His line of work is somewhat strenuous & he has been in that field for 4 years already. He has never acted like this before & my only reasoning is it's the medication because that the only thing he has ever taken as far as pill wise.

My concern is could the medication be putting him into a depression or causing him to act this way?

I have read the fourms & saw some people had the same side effects. I approached him about my concern( in the nicest way possible b/c this is affecting out relationship) & asked him if he would stop taking it for awhile or at least talk to the doctor to see what she recommends.

Are there any recommendations to what he should do? Has anyone been through & knows someone who has gone through this that could give advice?

    thanks in advance!

i would just think maybe have him talk with the doc! I think some people have weird effects like that. But i wonder why now, and not in the beginning, i know I was kinda bi.tchy in the beginning for a bit, but now just my normal bit.chyness!! But maybe see if he will stop for a week and see what happens, Did he agree that it might be the phen?

He did say it could possibly be it. He has agreed to stop taking it. His next doc appt is thursday & he said he might just finish outthis week then reschedule his appt for 2 weeks after thurs w/o being on the bills. I know they can be mental addictive due to the rapid weight loss & that might be a reason for him to hold up from stoping

He could try a lower dose and/or taking 5-htp. It's an herbal supplement that some people find helps with their mood while taking phen.
On the My Experience with Phentermine board, we call it "Phen Rage." Since he's a guy, I guess we can discount the theory it's due to female hormones.

    Hey Antonia,
I recently started Phen on monday.. i'm doing pretty well on it. I've had the usual side effects, jittery, shaky, i get really cold hands and sometimes cold feet as well, but they are subsiding. I take 1/2 at around 11 or 1130 and then the other half around 330. The Weight Control Dr that I went to also gave me 3 vitamins to take along with the pills to help with stress, anxiety, moods, and cravings. You can get them at your local pharmacy. I've seen them at Wal-Mart too. It's 5-HTP, Chromium Picolinate, and Magnesium Gluconate. Try picking up those vitamins and see how it goes. good luck!!
