    Unhappy

    Hi Mathi,

I am so happy to hear from you - but sad that you are having so much discomfort from the phentermine.

I almost missed your post - I have been looking for you under the string we started last week. I'm glad I noticed your name.

I did not have severe nausea - just medium nausea that I found was relieved by eating something light. The same type of thing that pregnant women do - crackers or something similar.

Since the phentermine suppresses the appetite one thing that can happen is that you may find that you aren't hungry at all. You still need to eat so that your body will have enough fuel! Are you eating enough? (From what I read most women should not go below 1,200 calories a day without the advice of a physician).

The other thing I wonder about is if the phentermine makes it more difficult for your body to tolerate certain categories of foods like sweets or fats? I don't know but I seem to have less tolerance and want of sweets and fats than before. Do you think watching your intake of sweets and fats might help? Also are you getting enough protein?

Are you drinking enough water? I use the guideline 1/2 my body weight = the number of ounces of water each day. I know - YIKES! But I can't tell you how much better I feel since I increased my water consumption to 150 ounces daily!!!!!!!!! Remember, I started at 302 pounds, although I am down to 282 now. (I started with the 150 ounces of water a week ago). I think drinking more water would tend to help medication induced nausea.

My doctor told me to take the phentermine on an empty stomach 1/2 hour before breakfast. The pharmacist told me to take it an hour after breakfast. I have tried both suggestions and found that taking it like the pharmacist suggested worked better (at least for now). So maybe modifying the time you take it will assist with your symptoms. The thing you have to watch out for if you take it later in the morning is insomnia.

The worst side effect I experienced was headaches. I had SEVERE headaches that would wake me up at night. I wonder if a person tends to experience a reaction in the part of the body that is vulnerable? I always tend to get a headache in response to medication changes.

Are you taking the phentermine in the same way as you had been, and at the same time of day?

As long as your pharmacist/doctor doesn't think you are having an alarming side effect try to ride it out. From everything I have read the adjustment period does not last longer than the first two or three weeks (a month at the longest). I had a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE first three weeks while I adjusted and did not think I was going to be able to stay on the phentermine.

I feel lots better now, it's been a little over a month. The only side effect I still have is some insomnia.

I hope you feel better soon!!!

    Let me know,

    Abbi

p.s. I assume that you have ruled out the other big causes of nausea - pregnancy, food poisoning, daytime television . . .
