The holidays are practically here, and supermarket shelves are now flooded with insanely delicious (yet insanely bad-for-you) foods. But it is possible to indulge in holiday goodies -- guilt-free! Check out Hungry Girl's TOP ATE festive food finds...
1. Vitasoy Peppermint Chocolate Soy Drink
This stuff is like the love child of a York Peppermint Pattie and a tall glass of rich chocolate milk, and it tastes INSANELY good! Granted, 140 calories and 4 grams of fat per cup isn't super-low, but splurging every now and then is ok. And, feel free to use it creatively; mix it into coffee or hot cocoa for a minty choco-rific surprise! Look for it with the other soymilks in major supermarkets; click here to locate a Vitasoy retailer near you.
2. Pillsbury Sugar Free Cinnamon Rolls with Icing
There are few things quite as satisfying as devouring a warm, gooey cinnamon roll dripping with icing on a winter morning. And we are LOVING the Pillsbury Doughboy for coming up with a sugar-free version that tastes just as good as the real thing. And not only are they low in calories, these things even contain 3 whole grams of fiber. Woohoo!
3. Silk Soymilk Nog
HG SHOCKER! Ordinary eggnog contains about 230 calories and 10 grams of fat per half-cup serving. Yikes! Silk's soy nog tastes great (it's practically as creamy and delicious as the real stuff), and it has just 90 calories and 2 grams of fat per half cup. This seasonal item is popping up on supermarket shelves everywhere. Weeee!
4. Torani Sugar Free Peppermint Syrup
This made-with-Splenda syrup is a must-have for the holidays. Perfect for coffee, hot cocoa, or in recipes, this minty sweet stuff is not only delicious, it's calorie-free! Find it at Cost Plus World Market, Smart & Final, or order it online.
5. Candy Cane Tootsie Pops
These red 'n white swirly pops are an old favorite. They take forever to eat (we always lose count of our licks on the way to the chewy center), and they're low-cal and fat-free! Pop one of these ******s in your mouth when dessert's being served at holiday dinners, and you won't even miss all those otherwise-tempting options. HG Tip! If you like 'em, stock up on 'em now 'cuz they'll disappear after the holidays.
6. Stash Tea Bags - Holiday Chai, Christmas Eve, White Christmas, and Christmas Morning
These yummy, special edition teas are flavored with all your favorite holiday-time tastes... cinnamon, clove, spearmint, ginger, peppermint, and more. If you can manage to hold onto ?em, keep some on hand for springtime when you feel like reminiscing! Available at most supermarkets and on amazon.com.
7. Dreyer's/Edy's Slow Churned Light Ice Cream - Egg Nog
(This limited edition ice cream has us counting the days (and minutes and seconds!) until it arrives in stores. And it's finally here! Even if you're not a huge fan of eggnog, you'll love this super-creamy frozen dessert. HG Heads Up! The Dreyer's/Edy's folks offer up two more delicious Slow Churned holiday flavors -- Pumpkin and Peppermint.
8. Bisquick Heart Smart Baking Mix
Here's another holiday must-have. Use Bisquick Heart Smart instead of other baking mixes in all your recipes...from cakes to casseroles! You'll save around 60 calories and 8 grams of fat per cup; and that adds up. Check out this HG recipe for Snazzy Blueberry Scones made with this stuff.
