A lot of my friends seem to be concerned about the government
interfering and watching over our daily lives, but what was surprising
to me was to find out (through a new documentary) that major news
organizations are also playing a part, though much less publicized
(because ironically they run the media!)

Case in point: Al Franken. Here’s a gentleman who was looking to have
his book published called “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them”. The
book basically exposes many unknown truths about the lies and dark
sides of major news organizations. Once Fox News heard about this book,
they went to court and tried (unsuccessfully) to stop its publication.
To me, that’s pretty scary. I feel that Americans have the right to
know what’s going on. If the government doesn’t tell us the whole
truth, and now we’re learning that the people that run the news that we
watch each night are doing the same to us, what can we do?

The film is called “The First Amendment Project”, and I first saw it
about a month ago at the Hamptons Film Festival. I know it won’t get as
much publicity as Michael Moore’s recent documentary, but in my
opinion, this movie is even more important because it exposes the
people that are bring us the news in the first place. I’m sure you can
google the name of the movie for more info, or if you want to catch it
on Court TV next Tuesday night at 10pm. I’m going to tape it for a
couple friends since no major networks would air it, and not everyone
has cable.

"Case in point: Al Franken. Here’s a gentleman who was looking to have his book published called “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them”. The book basically exposes many unknown truths about the lies and dark sides of major news organizations."
Oh, please. Does he attack NBC, ABC, and CBS as well? They're extremely liberally-biased. Or does he only attack FOX?
CBS ran with a story about supposed National Guard papers that were derogatory in nature towards President Bush. After it was without a doubt proved that they were forgeries, and obvious ones at that, Dan Rather (CBS) never apologized for touting documents that were blatantly untrue. I wonder what Franken would say about that....

"Once Fox News heard about this book, they went to court and tried (unsuccessfully) to stop its publication.
It is pretty scary.
But wouldn't you want to stop a book that's full of slander? Especially when there are people who believe everything they see and read? Most people don't check up on facts.
I highly doubt that the government is trying to say what we can and can not read when you can pick up "Mein Kampf" at any local library.

"I feel that Americans have the right to know what's going on."
Of course we do. Hey, I have an idea! Since Franken's so smart, let's have him review the evidence from the Warren Commission! But since that was ran by his own kind, I doubt he'd find anything wrong.

"If the government doesn’t tell us the whole truth, and now we're learning that the people that run the news that we watch each night are doing the same to us, what can we do?"
It isn't just FOX, dear. It's all the networks.
The government doesn't tell us the whole truth, neither would I expect them to. Do I really need to know everything? Besides, we have too many loudmouth reporters and too many terrorists who watch the news.

I don't agree with Jon Stewart's politics, but I think he's funny as h*ll.
Franken's just a bigoted, boorish, unfunny loudmouth.

I'd like to add my comments but it would start a raging battle so I'll keep it low key.

I do agree that its a scary situation and I did see the documentary. Its pretty funny how some people think just because someone exposes some truths about the Bush administration or the News and they dont like to hear it, that it must be full of lies. I want to add more comments but I'll bite my tongue and refrain.

I travel alot and have been around the world in the past couple of years, people really do hate Americans and they wonder if we get the same news as they do or if 1/2 the country is just really stupid. I have to admit its a little of both.

Kind of crazy when they conducted a world poll on election day and the rest of the world outside of the US voted 20/80. I wont say who got the 20 tho....

I believe we are on the same page Katt. I found out when my husband was killed in an accident that we have to be careful to "believe" what the papers and media are telling us. The truth can be shifted to suit the agenda.

I am VERY concerned that our country is not as invincible as we think we are and people around the world are less supportive of us than we would like to believe.

It starts with the media and entertainment industry. But I agree that we should not KNOW everything, that is why we vote and put our trust in our leaders. We bestoy upon them our confidence that the decisions they make will build or mend relationships between the U.S and the world. Do you feel safer?

Different views here... be we stand UNITED in our BELIEF in OUR ABILITY to BETTER OURSELVES. Here's to weight loss and a healthy lifestyle!

A positive attitude goes a long way! If you can see it, you can be it! See your goal! :-)
