Thread: Success on Meridia

    Post

I thought I would post since I found it hard to find any positive boards or posts about Meridia.

I've been on Meridia 8 days and have already lost 7lbs. I track my weight watchers points and I am averaging about 15-18 points per day instead of my usual 28 points. The biggest difference is that I am NOT hungry and NOT constantly thinking of food - this is huge for me. I've been dieting and overweight for 15 years and have had a constant battle with always thinking about food, what I was going to eat next, what diet I was on etc. I do have some side effects, like more anxiety and some dizziness every now and then - but so far it's be liveable. I have already checked in with my doctor and plan to every 2-weeks. I think as long as your in close contract with your doctor when on these medications - the risks can be monitored.

I have tried phentermine in the past and it didn't do anything for me but give me incredible headaches.

I think the biggest point is to find what works for you. I've also tried xenical as well, and since my diet is already low-fat; it did not have much effect. No one drug is right for everyone - if one isn't working, try another - we're all so individual that what works for one person - won't work for another.

I'd like to hear from anyone else out there doing well on Meridia, there has to be more of us out there.

Hi, I started my diet about a month ago on phen and although I lost weight I felt it was more down to willpower than the drug because as soon as it started to wear off I got really hungry. I had tried meridia before and did really well but then used the generic which I didn't find effective and gave up. So, I decided to stop the phen and start meridia again instead....so far so good...i've lost about 17lb in 3 weeks (and I have no side effects - i check my b/p regularly and its not changed at all, plus I don't get the spaced feeling I had from phen)

It works for me so far...I hope it continues to work for you...good luck x

Congrats girls! Good for both of you, whether it's phen, meridia, or whatever else you're taking! I've only ever tried phen, and I've had incredible success on it, so I don't imagine I'll be changing anything any time soon. I've got a friend on Meridia, though. She doesn't work out like she should, but she's still lost 10 pounds or so.

Glad you joined. We're all here for the same reason, and we're fighting the same fight. It just helps to have people fighting with you sometimes, doesn't it?

Meridia works great for me. It helped me lose 8 lbs in a month, I just wish it wasnt so expensive. Im gonna try phen next cause theres no way I can afford to pay for meridia.

I have also just started on Meridia 2 weeks ago. I've lost 8lbs in two weeks which I thought was great considering I have tried Phentermine,Hoodia,Xenadrine,Relacore,Alli,Stacker 3...you name it, I tried it and it seemed my body never took to any of them much and especially not without side effects. I have no side effects with Meridia and I feel great!!!! I should exercise, but right now everything is hectic. My goal is to drop some of my other commitments so in my 2nd month on it I can get a walk or some kind of exercise in. I wish they had a Meridia support website where you could chat with alot of people that are on it like they do this one. I love hearing success stories!!! They make it all worthwhile!

    Default Just started Meridia too.

I just started Meridia a week ago and I have lost six pounds already. I started exercising again for the last two days with cardio at home with my aerobic step.

It feels good to have more control. I read that working out helps you lose more and that's what I plan to do. I'm so tired of being the answer to the dieter's prayer. "Dear Lord, if I can't be thin than please let my friends be fatter then me."

Currently I am 199 pounds. When I got married 17 years ago I weighed 125 pounds and looked rather nice at my height of 5 ft 6 inches. :)

So, I would like to get down to 135 pounds at least. I don't know how long it will take but I am willing to be patient. I want to be and feel healthier too.:)

I have to snap some before photos so I'll have something to compare to the afters.:)

Everyone keep up the great work. It takes commitment no matter what route you choose to take.

The Meridia is more expensive then the Phentermine. I live in Hattiesburg, MS and I paid $111.00 for a month's prescription with a MS insurance card that anyone can get online. Also, on the Meridia website you can print out a one time coupon for one refill of Meridia with $25.00 off. I will do that next month.

I went to a doctor who prescribed me Phentermine and also Meridia. I had one month of the Phentermine and three months of the Meridia and then for some reason the doctor could not prescribe diet drugs anymore in the state of MS. He has since replaced himself with another doctor to service his patient's but I am going to wait until I go through all three of my refills for the Meridia.

I haven't had any side effects and I feel good so I'll keep taking it. I'll also post my experiences on Meridia as well. I've read that some people feel that Meridia works as an anti-depressant too.

Glad to see some have success with Meridia. I am just now starting meridia, I am 29yo and currently weigh 230 (I am about 5'6). I joined this site for support and to hear others stories.

I use to work out (daily just in order to keep me at the weight I was), eat right (and not more than 1500 cals a day for the last 2 yrs!) and yet I still never seem to lose any real amount of weight. I have gained about 40lbs in the last 6mo since I stopped exercising and it ****s, so my doc gave me Meridia which I hope with eating right and exercising (yep back at it) will help. Wish me luck :D

I've been taking Meridia for a little over a week now, after taking phentermine for 4 months...So far I really like it, it kills my cravings without making me feel like I'm on crack. The scale hasn't moved in like a month, but at least it's not going up! I know I am losing inches because all of my clothes keep getting bigger and bigger on me. I haven't worked out in almost 2 weeks because my husband was in an accident and I have been taking care of him. TODAY is the day I am starting back up though!!! Only 2 months till Lake Tahoe bikini time, I need to have at least 20 lbs off!!!

i have only been on meridia for a few days now. it doesn't feel like it's working, i have still been eating about the same amount , maybe a little less. i already workout a lot and eat pretty healthy. i was on phentermine a few years ago and lost weight on it then but when i tried it again this time, it did nothing in a month! :( i'm not that overweight, 5'5" and 140 but would just like to lose like 10 lbs or so, easier said than one. i appreciate any comments!!!

    Default hi there!

Hi there... I started Meridia this morning. I still feel a little hungry but nothing unbearable. i just chew sugar free gum and drink tons of water. So far I have had 2L of water.... I do feel a tiny bit light headed, but that may also be due to my TOM, which hit today as well. Let's see how well it does when the evening rolls around and i usually crave sweets! LOL... crossing my fingers! Anyone else out there using Meridia? Any success?

    Default YAY!

It worked! I didn't crave junk at night. I did feel some hunger, but not like usual. I ate 3 small meals and felt satisfied. I am going to do 6 small meals so I don't feel ghungry at all! And, the best part is I lost 3 pounds!!! in one day! AMAZING!!!! :)

I was rushing out of the house this morning and completely forgot to bring them with me today, so I guess I will be skipping today's dose. Maybe I will run home during lunch break and take it... If not, I can start again tomorrow.

Anyways, it would be great to hear from others who are using/have used Meridia!

    :)

I took Meridia for a month and it worked for about a week and then I was hungry 24/7. I started taking Phentermine 3 weeks ago. I still get hungry. Whats up with that? Please send me a PM if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

I had success with Merridia myself. I lost 35lbs for a period of 8months. I started with the 10mg then I was bumped up to 15mg. I must admit towards the end my body began to get used to and it didn't work that well. I had to give my body and my wallet a break. Then I would start back on it. sometimes that helped and sometimes it didn't. They only side effect I had was a moderate case of dry mouth even though I was constantly drinking water. On other boards, I noticed some complained about insominia. I definitely didnt have that problem. When I would start back after giving myself a break, there was times in the morning where I had to fight to keep my eyes open. But that soon faded. I looked at my ** cash balance from last year and I spent over a thousand dollars just in my Merridia **'s. I just couldnt do it any longer. I heard Phen is cheaper than what I would spend on a week quantity of Merridia. So it makes sense to switch.

    Cool Meridia

I am new to the site, hello everyone! I started Meridia(5MG) about 9 days ago and although I do not constantly think of food, I do still get hungry.(For some reason my doc likes to start everyone at 5 and increase every 4 weeks). I may have lost about 2lbs. I am a little dissappointed, I guess patience is truly a virtue. It could also be that its that TOM for me and I tend to hold in some water weight. I have been trying to keep my meals anywhere between 1000-1500 cal a day. I am also working on stopping when I feel satisfied. Its hard because I want to finish the plate!!

I did go to the gym yesterday and did about an hour of moderate cardio. Well I will Keep everyone posted!!

Today I went to the pharmacy, as I do every 30 days, and to my surprise, CVS does not carry Meridia. They stated the manufacturer has halted productions. This is my worst nightmare!!! My fears are playing right before my eyes! So to my rescue I call my Dr, she substituted my script with Zenical, and to no avail. Zenical is over $350. So right now unless she prescribes Phen, looks like im on my own. :-/

    Any suggestions?

A few years ago my doc told me wen Alli came on the market it had essentially replaced Zenical. They essentially work the same way and since Alli was OTC and much cheaper than Zenical, he wasn't offering it anymore. TYhat may be why Zenical is so expensive. :-(

I decided to not try Alli or go back to that dr and went to a WL Clinic closer to where I work instead. I don't eat fatty foods much anymore so I really don't need anything like Alli or Zenical. When I do eat something fatty, I use good old Metimucil and it does the job.

I heard that Meridia is now being reconsidered for approval because of the side effects or something like that. I'm not so sure why because it seems less potent than Adipex/Phentermine. I did 3 months of Phentermine but my state did not allow more than 3 month prescription without a 6 month break. My doc prescribed Meridia but I only took it for 2 weeks and felt that it did absolutely nothing for me. I was hungry all the time and actually became grumpy on it which I never was on Phen. The cost just did not seem to be worth trying to hang in there, so I stopped.

I now go it alone without any drugs to help (boo!)...but I learned a lot about eating and exercising while on Phen and so I just employ that into my everyday thought. It's hard being hungry, having cravings and trying to lose weight. That is why I really concentrate on the exercise portion of dieting. I sometimes can go mad with the idea of eating but exercising...the only thing that gets in my way is just plain not wanting to do it but it's easier to overcome that than it is the craving for salty chips!

Good luck. I hope it all works out for you!

On October 8th, 2010 Abbott pulled Meridia from the market in the United States and Canada under pressure from the FDA. It is still very inexpensive and available without a prescription in Mexico though.

Even though I stopped taking it earlier in the year, I knew if anything else didnt work Meridia sure did. Makes me wonder if Phen may be next on the chopping board. They both have the same warnings and possible effects. Anyway its not like the dr is giving the pills and letting you lose to fend for your own. I was closely monitored when using meridia. Oh well. The pills are only a learning tool to lose weight the smart way.
