Here's what I read on another site. It's a pretty vague answer, but maybe will give you some insight. I know Phentermine has received much better ratings by users than Meridia has.

Appetite Suppression Remedies
Most medications used in the management of obesity are appetite suppressants (anorectic drugs). These medications promote weight loss by decreasing appetite or increasing the feeling of being full. They achieve this by increasing serotonin or catecholamine - two brain chemicals that affect mood and appetite. Most currently available appetite suppressant medications like Tenuate (Diethylpropion) and Adipex (Phentermine) are approved for short-term use (8-12 weeks). Meridia / Reductil (Sibutramine) is the only appetite suppressant medication approved for longer-term use in significantly obese patients.

I tried Meridia about two years ago. I was on it for about 4 months and I didn't lose any weight. I didn't gain any either. It definately did not take away my appetite. Maybe it's just me, but even on a higher dose it still did nothing for me. I just started Pentermine today and already I can feel a difference in my appetite. I'm really excited about Phentermine and wonder what took me so long to try it??!!

Hey! My mom took meridia and what happened was it divides your fat intake and does not digest the fat in your food. (This is why it warns you about oily stools because your bms will contain fat and sometimes whole pieces of food.) Personally I have always thought phen is good for weight loss and bc phen use is usually limited to 8 weeks, meridia would be good for maintenance. Good luck with the phen.
