Here's what I read on another site. It's a pretty vague answer, but maybe will give you some insight. I know Phentermine has received much better ratings by users than Meridia has.
Appetite Suppression Remedies
Most medications used in the management of obesity are appetite suppressants (anorectic drugs). These medications promote weight loss by decreasing appetite or increasing the feeling of being full. They achieve this by increasing serotonin or catecholamine - two brain chemicals that affect mood and appetite. Most currently available appetite suppressant medications like Tenuate (Diethylpropion) and Adipex (Phentermine) are approved for short-term use (8-12 weeks). Meridia / Reductil (Sibutramine) is the only appetite suppressant medication approved for longer-term use in significantly obese patients.
