My new Doctor gave me this prescription for 15 mg of Phen. I have not taken it yet because I am so worried about it being dangerous. I am very happy that this doctor is finally taking me seriously after years of looking for an answer for my weight problem. What has me concerned is that when I went to fill prescription at the pharmacy the pharmacist gave me a print out that said that since I am also on Prozac there is a severe warning reaction with the Phentamine. This was 2 weeks ago, since then I went back to my doctor who said it was fine, he uses it all the time on patients who are also on Prozac. I called my family doctor, she said No, dont take it. I am so confused. I really, really want to lose weight, but I dont want to risk my life doing it.

Hi Shmada and welcome. Sorry, I can't help. I've been looking for my photocopy on Phentermine from the Physicians' Desk Reference, which of course I can't find.

Checking wiki, I didn't see Fluoxetine (Prozac) mentioned in the "Contraindications and warnings" section on the Phen page, but Phen should not be taken with anti-depressants or other other drugs which are MAOIs. Do you still have the print-out from the Pharmacist? I wonder if it gives more info.

Please wait for the others. Someone might have experience with Phen and Prozac, or understand why your Pharmacist and GP are saying one thing while the other doctor is saying something else.

ps. Forgot to add: I think you're quite sensible to wait until you have a reasonable answer as to the differing opinions. Your overall health and well-being are more important than the extra pounds.

There r several people who take phen and Prozac on here or phen and other antidepressents! In the beginning I took phen and Prozac and didn't have any problems! alot of doctors put their patients on Prozac when their patients weight has stalled or slowed down some! It's known as the phen pro combo!! I can understand ur concerns but u really don't have to b scared taking the two togather! There is a thread on this combo mix so u may want to search for it and read what others have to say about the two, some loses even more weight taking the two togather! Just try it and if u don't like it then go off the Prozac and only take the phen! Also 15mg is a low dose of phen most everyone on here tAke the 37.5mg phen! Thanks for the responses. I saw my doctor again today, and we decided to wait a bit because he actually thinks I am too anxious right now, as in I am suffering from too much anxiety over this and other things so we are going to put the weight loss on the back burner for the moment and work on some other issues I have. But I have the Phen and when I am ready to take it I will be back here for support. You are all so lucky to have lost weight I am sooooo jealous.
