Unhappy Side effects first week on phen

Hi there! Im really new around here.. i had a few concerns with phen so i stopped taking it and went to my Dr... i want to start back up again.. wanted to see if anyone else was having any of the same side effects or if it was a normal reaction.. first off, i was prescribed 37.5mg.. but to start off i only took half a pill in the morning... when i first took the pill within the first 20 mins my heart started to race.. then it would slow down.. had a few hot flashes..nothing bad at all..the main thing is, my heart would race out of the blue for a few minutes and then stop... it def. made me not hungry which was great.. i was releasing my bladder ALOT bc of all the water i was drinking.. def. gave me dry mouth but that wasnt bad.. on the 3rd day i felt like my heart was constantly fast.. it freaked me out a little so i checked in with my Dr... my resting heart rate before had been 88.. when i was with him on my 3rd day of half a pill it was a resting rate of 104.. i had a little tightness in my chest that day as well but he checked an EKG and it was fine.. he recommended that i only take a half every other day for a bit and see if my body took it better.. did any of this happen to yall??? he said it just isnt good for some peoples bodies but i really felt like it was working so i dont want to give it up..can anyone relate?? is this normal? i mean i know its supposed to speed up your metabolism and all.. also, has anyone taken 1/2 a pill..? will you still lose weight on that? PLEASE respond.. thanks so much..Happy New Years!!

If 1/2 a pill reduced your appetite it is probably going to work to help you lose weight. You need to find a healthy eating and exercise program though because after you stop Phen you will have to be able to maintain.

Hi There!!! Just wanted to say yes your effects your having is pretty normal...the dry mouth and also the heart racing...Mine always done that also...I no it can be scary but it will eventually go away....I mean My heart still races even tho im off the phen now and it does scare me alot to...Just make sure you dont have any caffiene while on the phen as it will make it worse and also caffiene will make u crave bad foods...I would just try the half a tablet for a while and see how u do with it...I was taking a half a tablet and still lost plenty of weight....Then once my body got used to the phen I started taking the whole tablet...And if your still having problems then I would forsure go back to the doctor....phen isnt for everyone....we are all different and some peoples body is more sensitive to the phen......Good luck!!! let us no how u do!!!!! Hi there. I am fairly new here myself. I just recently started back on Phen. Right now I am on the 15 mg capsules. I had taken this before and my doctor and told me a few things about the different milligrams. He originally started me my first time on the 37.5 tablets and I was to cut them in half as well. I had the same problem, and my heart racing terrified me. Which would result in me panicing and make it worse. The tablets are not time released so when you take it goes through your system and you feel the effects quickly. He suggested me trying the 15 mg extended released. Since it is time released it slowly dispenses the med throughout the day. This helped me. I didn't know if it would help my hunger but it did. Then after a month of me doing well on it, he raised it up to the 30 mg extended release capsules. And that was good. Towards the end I tried the 37.5 tablet and was fine, even taking the whole thing at once. I guess because by then I was used to the Phen. So, if it is scaring you it wouldn't hurt to ask for the 15mg capsules. It is the lowest dosage. 37.5 is the highest.

Oh, and the first time around that I took Phen I lost 70 pounds! It worked for me and I mainained my weight until I got pregnant. So, I think if you can get yourself to take the Phen, you will be happy with the results. Good luck, and I hope this helps!

Rest assured that all of us experience some side effect or another....completely normal. You are absolutely doing the right thing by communicating regularly with your doctor about your concerns. I didn't do that but instead read the postings on this board frequently in the early days and found that I was not alone in my experiences and trusted that everything would settle down in to a good routine with a little time.....and it has.

FYI - my doctor prescribed the 30mg generic time release capsules so there is no cutting in half possible. The directions say to take the pill on an empty stomach and wait an hour to eat. Well, I can't wait an hour to eat or I get too "speedy" so I only wait about 30 minutes and then I eat. This has worked well for me and I don't have the racing heart side effect any more unless I wait too long to eat. Each of us in our own way figures out what works for us. Some good people on this site eat and then wait an hour or so before taking their pill. They find that the appetite suppression lasts later in to their day that way. ( Good if you are a night time snacker...)

Best wishes to you and keep in touch with your doc and with us.....
    Feelin' fine in 2009!

yeah I started getting pressure in my chest when I take it..I was concerned so I went to my dr and got an ekg they said my heart is fine..so I'm not sure why it causes chest discomfort. I was taking 37.5 and I am taking a day break and then will take a half a pill. It is continues I guess no phentermine for me
