Question Need help with diet
Hey all,

My MD gave me a prescription but did not give me a diiet to go with it. I am hoping to find a good one. I liked doing weight watchers, but I dont have the time or the money for it.

Right now I am exercising (riding my bike) 3 miles a day and then walking about 1 mile at night. Any other suggestions for exercise would be great too.

So anyone have any suggestiosn I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Beth

Welcome, Beth! I just joined here this week. It is a GREAT forum with plenty of knowledgeable, helpful and funny people. Unlike other boards I have seen, this one truly seems to have a team atmosphere.

When I got my prescription, my doc suggested a low calorie diet or South Beach diet.

Before going on Phentermine, I had lost 56 lbs. on my own (gained some back as is listed in my siggy). Anyway, when I lost it that time, I was on the Mediterranean Diet and it also worked well for me. There's no special food to buy and the best thing is, it teaches you portion control and label-reading so it is something that you can live with. It's not a diet, it's a permanent lifestyle change. I may only be on Phen for 4 or 6 months, but I plan to keep it off this time, once and for all...so these are permanent changes, not something that will completely go by the wayside in 6 months.

I think your excercise regime is spot-on. For me, it was important to hear from my doc that excerise "is cumulative"...so fit it in wherever you can, even if it's a 15 minute brisk walk at lunch, parking as far away from the grocery store as you can, etc. I even adjust my shopping list so that it makes me go from one end to the other and back again, increasing how much I walk.

I have also, in the past, used a pedometer. You can get a good one for less than 25 bucks. I wore it every day and made sure to log no less than 10,000 steps each day. On days that I worked out (I do mostly walking) sometimes I logged as much as 12,000 to 14,000 steps.

I hope this helps and again, welcome!! I wish you great success!!

Hey loseweightin08, My doctor suggested a low carb diet. I was very skeptical at first. I never thought that I could do a low carb diet. But I did, and I'm glad I did!!!! It broke me of my sugar addiction, and I wouldn't take that back for anything!!!! But after the first month, I wanted to have a bit more variety, and the "bad" carbs that I wasn't supposed to be eating. So, I decided to go with Weight Watchers. I have to be limited in the things I can eat, or I will eat all the wrong things, so I'm doing Core. I love it! I'm so glad I tried it, because I know that I can eat like this for life and I don't have to measure or count anything. As far as not haveing the money for it....I'm guessing you're referring to the meetings???? I don't go to meetings. I do it myself and it really doesn't cost me that much more for my food. When you cut out all the bad cereals and junk food, you actually save quite a bit of money, and I don't have a lot of that to spend anyway!!!

I think you're workout is great! I walk 2 miles every other day and do pilates, and on the other days, I do strength training. Seems like you know what you're doing! Welcome!

Lost 9 lbs prior.

I'm with Crazychey (you go girl) in that I also do Weight Watchers, but I do flex plan. I don't go to the meetings either (too much money) but I know the basics and can do it on my own. When I got my meds, my doctor suggested a "South Beach" type diet, but I threw that paper away and went with something I knew, and something that I could live with for the rest of my life. Good luck with your weight loss and Welcome!!!

Thanks!

I am going to see what happens this week and go from there. I just took my first 1/2 pill about 10 minutes ago. The only thing I noticed was that I was having trouble getting out of bed (I have a bad cold) but the pill helped me get up with her/

i started taking phen almost 4 weeks ago thru a weight loss clinic. they gave me a high fiber, 1000 calorie diet to follow. when i saw it i thought, no way. but it has worked for me. weight is slowly coming off, 9 lbs. so far, but i'm only taking the 15 mg phen. it's basically, high fiber cereal and fruit for breakfast. half of chicken or turkey sandwich or a salad or baked potato, for lunch with fruit, and the same for supper. there are certain recommended fruits and vegetables. is not any more expensive than eating out or buying lots of "junk food" or meat. taking the phen, it's been easy to eat half of a sandwich with an apple for lunch and feel full. can also eat up to 4 protein bars a day. take a daily multivitamin also and a B-12 pill once week.
