Default Another Newbee! Lost 14.5 lbs so far!
Hi everyone,

My name is Tammie and I've been on phentermine for 2 weeks now. I've lost 14.5 lbs so I feel like I'm doing pretty good. I'm 5'8" and now weigh 152.5 lbs. I got pregnant almost 5 years ago and over those long 9 months on bedrest, I managed to gain well over 100 lbs. Before I got pregnant I was around 120lbs with 7 or 8% body fat. I went from working out 6 days a week to laying around and quickly packed on the pounds. After I had my son in 04, I managed to lose around 90 lbs of it all by working out and eating better again. My body sure isn't the same anymore and working out seems to be more difficult than I remember it being. In 06, my husband and I began having a lot of problems...I got lazy, depressed, and gained most of the weight back. We finalized our divorce this past December and I decided it was time to feel better about myself and lose the weight! Plus, dating is pretty difficult when you can't even get a date! LOL.

Anyway, I'm on the phentermine now and still working out. I'm not as strong as I once was but I know that it all comes with time and determination. I've never been overweight in my entire life, so these past 5 years have shown me a new world. I was always the "skinny" girl with long legs. Then it seemed like overnight, people had a new view of me. I have no desire to be as small as I once was but I would like to be at a healthy weight to feel good about myself. I didn't like how people treated me when I was heavier and I feel terrible that ANYONE should have to endure that sort of treatment. Especially the comments, "should you really be eating that???" and "wow, if I was HER...I wouldn't wear THAT!!!"

Anyway, I hope to get lots of great advice from you all and I look forward to watching all of us drop the weight and keep it off. Best of luck to all of us!!!!

Tammie.

Like a lot of women, my weight issues didn't begin until I had children. I've had two babies in two years (05/07) and gained a bunch of weight. The worst part about being over weight is how people treat you...

Good luck - I'm sure you'll do great!

Oh Tammie, I'm so sorry to hear your story, but I know what it's like to gain weight and have a hard time keeping it off once you have kids. Kids and age and then add a little stress to your life, can really do damage to your body.

I think you're doing great- keep your meal portions small, lots of veggies, fruit and water and keep exercising and I bet you'll be back to your old self in a short time.

Take care-

Hello and welcome. I too have been struggling to rid myself of post-baby weight. Like you, I was able to lose the baby weight after the first two, but baby number 3 and 4 have wreaked havoc on my body. Add the loss of a couple of loved ones, giving up my career to stay home and it was all a recipe for EXTREME weight gain.

You have done an awesome job thus far, and I expect you will continue to do the same. Best of luck!

Hello and welcome to the board. I sorry that you encountered such jerks. People forget that giving birth means giving birth. You carried and nutured a human being for several months. It takes a toll on a woman's body. And the fact that your priorities are not to head to Nieman Marcus for a restyling and wardrobe makeover. Forget them. You will be successful and then they will say "how did she do it?" or maybe "I should be doing what she is doing". Good luck.
Start: 246 lbs.-no phen-no gym

Default Need to maintain!
I started on Phentermine back in December 2007, as of today I have lost 40lbs. My doctor put me on a 1200 calorie diet and told me to exercise. I stayed at or below my calories to a tee. I got off all sodas, diet and regular, and tried watching my sodium intake. I drank water, water and more water!! I did not however exercise, I would be lying if I said I did! I went from a size 16 to a size 8. I lost 14 inches from my waist. It was hard work!!

So, here I am now - no longer on Phentermine. And it is scary. I worry that I won't be able to keep it off. I gained 2 lbs back, and the fear is setting in. I started getting comfortable in the fact that I lost the weight and hadn't watched my calories as closely - and starting drinking more diet soda's and eating things that I wouldn't have done before. Today I started drinking water, no more soda's, watching my calories closely. The girls at work and I have started a Jump Rope club, we are all going to jump rope at home counting each jump, then record what we achieved. I think exercise and calorie control is going to be key for me to keep the weight off.

If anyone out there has any additional ideas or suggestions I welcome them. Also, anyone who has been where I am now, how did you do it!? Thanks and I look forward to meeting some new buddies!

Welcome! Yay on the 14.5 lbs! That is great!

I had the EXACT same pregnancy! I was placed on complete bedrest when I was 20 weeks pregnant with my daughter (2006). I had to stay in bed constantly, using a bed pan! MISERY! Anyway, I managed to gain 69lbs while stuck in the bed. My husband, bless his heart, did the best he could, but we mostly ate fast food. My son was in the 1st grade at the time so my husband was having to be responsible for all of our food. Of course he and my son always opted for fast food over grocery shopping, cooking and cleaning the kitchen!

I totally understand where you are coming from!

Good luck on the phen. I just started on yesterday 8/7/08. I am much like you, in that I had not ever had weight issues until the last 2-3 years. It has gotten out of control for me though and I decided to do something for me. I pretty much has some of the same issues relationship wise only I was not married but I dated and allowed myself to stay in that relationship forever knowing full well that he was not committed. Then taking all of that into consideration, I got depressed felt like I was pretty enough and all of that negative stuff that your mind can tell you about you. With that also came the weight gain and before I knew it I was over weight and didn't like the way I looked and I wallowed in that for a while. But I am determined now to do whtat I need to do for myself and just like you....at the accomplishment of my goal weight I am going ot begin to go out and date! I will be the wiser, confident woman that God made me to be!

I am here if you need me! Take care and stay encouraged!
