Finally found a decent doctor!
I posted here a while back looking for some advice on how to find a doctor that will prescribe phen. Since the scare around fenfluramine, doctors fell for the press pushing the problem as being with 'phen/fen' rather than just the fen and so far it seems like even mentioning phen is taboo to them.
My PCP wouldn't give it to me, she put me on Xenical... god that was AWFUL. That lasted 3 or 4 days before I couldn't take the side effects. I went to a shrink, he put me on wellbutrin instead after diagnosing me as depressed which just made me extremely angry (the drug, not the shrink). Had to get off that stuff fast! I called every bariatric clinic I could find, they just wanted to do surgery or put me on a non pharmaceutical food plan. I was ready to drive 50+ miles to some of these places I was calling, but FINALLY found a doctor local to me (she's in Hampton, NH) via google (after many many hours with google) that specializes in weight loss and weight loss meds. She is awesome and while she doesn't accept insurance, the $95/mo I'm paying her is less than what I'd spend going out to eat in a week anyway.
This is my 4th go around with phen in the past 15 years and I'm happy to report it's working extremely well once again, better than I can ever remember in fact (even with the fen). I've been trying the past two years without meds to lose weight. I've been going on and off low carb, I've been running, biking and stair mastering, and as of last year I was down 35lbs, but put 20 back on in the last year. With 4 weeks of phen in my system, I've taken the 20 back off and have about 27 to go. I think this time around I'm going to need a maintenance plan that involves phen as I've learned three times now that without it, the weight and my uncontrollable appetite comes back.
It's really helped that I've already been exercising, so I could just jump right in and run a 5K every day or bike to work (14mi round trip) without killing myself... and my cholesterol was phenomenal before even starting phen (156!!!) I am noticing though that I'm starting to go overboard with lack of eating. I have virtually no appetite and have been just drinking 3 Slimfast shakes a day and having a light dinner most of the time. I find it interesting that in week 4 this stuff seems to really be kicking in even harder than the first 3 weeks. This is the first week I've started 'jonesing' and getting headaches. It's almost 11pm and I don't think I'll be going to bed any time soon. I was having no sleep issues the first three weeks. In fact I'm kind of babbling here just typing this post. I think I'll click submit before I keep going on and on.
