Default Phentermine and PCOS
Hi All,

I'm new to this and am only on my second day of Phen. Can anyone give me tips on foods that are low in sugar and carbs? I currently have PCOS which if any of you have it you know it makes you crave carbs so I'm having a little trouble learning what to eat. On top of the my triglycerides are through the roof so I'm trying to stay away from sugars. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome!
I do not have PCOS, but there are several ladies here that do. As for the low carb thing, I try to follow this way of eating myself. The best advice I can give you, is to prepare all of your meals yourself if you have time to do so. If you have a family at home I understand that can sometimes be difficult.

I mainly eat lots of lean protein, such as talapia, chicken breast, and lean turkey. I also have veggies that are low in carbs. If you google Atkins induction phase, that will give you a great place to start.

One key thing to remember, is to also drink plenty of water, and exercise when you can. Walking is fine. I wish you all the best.

I, too, Have pcos. I *use to* live by carbs. I have done south beach phase 1 successfully in the past, so I got started with that around the beginning of June. I just couldn't do it this time. So I started phen on June 16.
I go to a weight loss clinic so they gave a book with a ton of eat right info.
1200 calories a day. 20 grams of fat a day.
Eat three meals a day plus one or two snacks. Almost impossible, but not entirely.
Don't rule out bread entirely. Make a sandwich out of pita bread or wraps. its ok to have a fiber/bran nonsugared cereal for breakfast, but I don't. I just have a spoon of peanutbutter, a glass of nonfat milk, and some fruit. For lunch I have the pita/wrap or a salad with chicken on it. For dinner I have the pita/wrap, if i didn't have it for lunch, or grilled or broiled fish or shrimp and veggies. Have a stick of cheese for a snack. Another fruit for a snack. Jello and yogurt are good choices too for snack. My book says eat popcorn for snacks too.

Drink Lots and Lots of water. I have 2- one liter water bottles that I drink. I am trying to make it to 3 Liters. This will help you feel full. i split my pill and take one half when I wake up and one half in the afternoon, because I am a night eater.

Only get food from the grocery store that you like, don't be unrealistic, if you know you are not going to want to eat it, then get something else. Don't limit your choices too much, limit your sizes instead.
See ya at the beach, I'll be the fat one in the thong.

I have PCOS as well. Are you taking metformin? It is a medicine that will help with insulin resistance, which is a major underlying cause of PCOS. If not, might be worth talking to your doctor about. You mentioned the high triglycerides and that is what came to mind. Metformin can really help and I take it with my Phen. It can also help once you go off of Phen to keep some of your PCOS symptoms in check.

I have a hard time not eating carbs as well, but ever since being on Phen, it has really helped a lot! I eat about every 2 hours. If I don't eat every 2 hours or so, I get sick to my stomach. So I will eat things like Jell-O, yogurt, and cheese sticks. For breakfast I have been eating Special K protein cereal. Around lunch time I will have meat and cheese and then dinner I will eat what everyone else eats, but just a really small portion (usually some type of lean meat, veggines, and a carb...I just remember to take a LITTLE bit of carb).

My thoughts on taking the Phen are that I am not very hungry, so when I do eat, I need to be putting healthy stuff in my body b/c my body still needs tons of nutrition. If you want something sweet, try a sugar free popsicle (we bought some creamsicle sugar free ones the other day and they are delicious!). Don't try to eliminate all carbs and sugars as this will just end in disaster. If you have a craving for something, have it, but cut down majorly on portion size. When you buy something from the store that is in a big bag, separate portions out into snack size baggies. That way you are more aware of how much you are eating.

Just some suggestions! Good luck!

I have PCO's, I take metformin as well. My carb craving used to be strong....I was addicted to carbs!!! I began to feed my body healthy food, whole wheat, little to no sugar intake, fruits & vegatables....I only ate when my body told me(this was 1 wk before phen) I only lost 2lbs. To me that was great because, I knew by making adjustment in my diet that weight loss was not a far fetched idea. Since being on phen, my intense cravings for carbs has significantly decreased, btw phen does not allow me to eat big portions. Exercise has also played a big role in my weight loss!!!! combining smart eating, metformin, exercise, and phen......I have lost almost 20lbs!!!!!

I also have PCOS and am on Metformin, are you taking it? I was off of it for a year while I did not have insurance and I felt like crap. Since being on it and Phen, I feel better than I have in years!!!

Yep, I'm on Met. I take 1000mg per day. I take mine at night because it upsets my stomach. When starting Phen did you guys get a lot of headaches?

Yes, I had horrible headaches which rarely happens - its normal. Next time you get Metformin, ask for the XR time release kind. They are much easier on the tummy.
