Default Hey Marcie
This is only my honest opinion........I powerlifted for many years, then decided to cut out some of the fat due to High Blood Pressure. Powerlifting doesn't necessarily mean that you are all muscle, I wasn't!!!
So, did alot of research, talked to alot of trainers prior to altering my workout. My research led me to believe that spot reduction is a myth. Fat comes onto your body in layers, like an onion, and it leaves the same way. That being said, when I lose weight, it's apparent on my face first. So I dunno.
As far as how long you work out, I don't think it matters. It's the intensity of the workout that counts. Sandman and I had a discussion about this yesterday. Find out what your limits are, and try to surpass them every week. The body does not cope well with change, that's why we are all dieting. The same goes in the gym, when I know I did ten minutes last week on the treadmill at a 2.0 incline, this week, I'll do ten minutes on a 2.5 or 3.0 incline. Shock Your body and you will get results!!

Good Luck!

Start with a routine you are comfortable with and work your way up to a more strenuous exercise. I agree with Hooligan - switch it up and shock your body! I think that cardio is probably the best way to start.
