    Default Started Phen today!

    Hi all,

I have been reading some of the posts here. Everyone is so encouraging!

A little about me.... I have yo-yo'd for years. A few weeks ago, I hit a new high of 197 -- in September I was 168 (for a day or two anyway -ha). I started on South Beach and have lost pretty slowly for phase 1. I am on week four of phase 1 and have only lost 10 lbs. I am currently at 187. I have an extremely supportive husband and 2 great kids.

I have been contemlating the lap-band for about a year, but insurance doesn't cover it b/c I have no co-morbidities. I would even consider self-pay, but I don't think insurance would cover any complications from the band down the road, since it wasn't approved to begin with. I just can't risk that. Also, I am just scared of it long term.

I am tired of being heavy!! I have no energy -- especially since I started back on SB. We also have a family vacation planned. We are going to Mexico in August. I know I will still be overweight when we go, but I'd love it if I could lose 30 lbs by then and be at 157.

Anyway, I went to the doc today and she prescribed 30 mg of phen --only 1 month though. I have to go back in 4 weeks to weigh in and see how it's going, then she'll give me a another month supply if it's going well. Is this typical of all of your experiences?

    Default Yay!

Congrats on your life style change on wanting to lose the weight!

Yes, I had the same experience. I have to go to my doctor to get my **'s. I like to go every other month.

But yes! Keep with the exercise and you can do it!!! I think if you put your mind to it, you will lose the weight you want by August.

    Take Care!
I am no longer fighting the world to prove I am comfortable being A BIG girl.. Because I was only fighting myself... I'm not comfortable, and I am happy I am doing something about it. Starting this over and fresh with a new begining!

    Default Hey Tulip..Welcome

    Just my two cents...

If you think about it, the lap band does nothing but force you to eat the way you should while you are on the phen. I am not a big eater when it comes to meals, but gimme a pizza and a tub of chunky monkey, and I'll lock myself in a closet and protect it like the hobbits in Lord of the Rings!! That's my problem....I talked to my doc about it, and he looked at for a minute and said....you can do it on your own, I'll take ur money and do the band, but why don't you REALLY try. I was pissed at him at first, but then he gave me the phen, and I liked him again!! After I took it the first day, I really liked Him!!
Anyhow, I've had friends that had Bariatric surgery, and it worked great for some, and others fell back into their old habits, and gained back more. I don't want to spend 30+ grand and be one of the small failure statistics.

So, Phen has been my friend for the last week, and has really given me a push. It also made me realize how much (or little) food I need to survive.

The only downside is that my water bill is going to be outrageous...not from drinking, but from flushin so much !!

PS - I'm not downing anyone on here who has had Bariatric Surgery!!! I wish I would have done it back in the day when insurance covered it.

    Good Luck Tulip......we'll be here

    Welcome aboard!

I, too looked into the lap band. Even paid my first $500 for the meeting about it, the labs and the psychological exam. I was 285 lbs, my BMI was 43, the insurance had approved it because I had issues with blood clots a few years ago, and all was a go.

The week before my consult to schedule my surgery, I started Phen to give it one last shot and let me tell you how happy I am I chose to do it on my own. Not only has it helped me learn more about myself and my body, losing it on my own has steadily increased my self confidence, and I've taught myself how to eat, which I think is more important than being a skinny minny!

I think your goal of losing weight by August is a sensible goal and I'm sure if you eat properly and exercise, you can reach it by then. Keep us posted on your progress and good luck!

I exercised today for the first time on phen. Wow! I felt great. I still feel great! I only worked out for about 25 minutes b/c I had to pick my daughter up from pre-school. Usually that would have been more than enough -- today I could have easily done more. Day 2 is going great so far.

Anyway, thanks for all your warm welcomes!
