Default In Need of Sleep
Hello all,

I started taking phen six days ago taking the half tablet of 37.5 mg. The first night I slept without any problems but then the following night is when I started having trouble. I went to bed around 10:30 but I could not fall asleep at all, I felt jittery and anxious so I tried to relax but it felt like I could not make my mind stop thinking, I finally fell asleep around 6am that morning. During the day I would feel okay but when I would try to sleep I couldn't, my body wanted to relax but I felt like I couldn't. It has been going on for the past three nights and each night I go to bed even more tired than the day before but for some reason I can't sleep.

I have never had trouble falling asleep before, I have even tried taking benadryl in the evening to make me sleep and it doesn't help. My boyfriend has been doing this program for 7 months and he has not had any symptoms like I have, just wondering if anyone else has had this similar problem before. I am going to my doctor tomorrow and seeing if they can lower the dosage, I am supposed to be taking the full tablet but I have been only taking half. Any help from you all I would gladly appreciate!

I had the same problem but with the 37.5 dosage so I scaled back to half that dosage. Also, now I take melatonin (over the counter supplement good for sleep) and this helps some. I think everyone is different. I have a co-worker taking the 37.5 dosage and she is sleeping fine for the most part. I think it's just a matter of figuring out what works for you. I have read by other posters that sometimes it takes up to two weeks to adjust to the side effects. Talk with your doctor and see what they suggest. Good luck...and get some sleep!

I am taking Clozapine (I believe that's what it's called). My doctor gave it to me for restless leg syndrome and I sleep so good now - even with taking the full 37.5mg.

Other people here have mentioned taking Nyquil at night to help them sleep.

I keep trying to lose weight... but it keeps finding me!

My doctor recommende that these three together as a non forming sleep aid
Melatonin 3mg (taking two)
Benadryl ( generic is Diphenhydramine) 25mg
Plus any sleepy time tea

So sorry Bloo ... sleep deprivation is awful.
What time of day are you taking your Phen?

I take Tylenol PM .. about 8p so I can easily doze off about 11p. But there are other over the counter meds that don't have the pain killer in them that are just as efficient and I'll be trying those next.

Good luck, Find something that works for you.

in addition

Think about your caffiene intake (if any) and again what time of day that you are drinking it.

Just another thought ...

Thank you all very much for your information! I take my dosage at inbetween 7-8am daily, since its when I get up for school. I didn't take it today because I wanted to see if I could fall alseep without it or not, I'll see how it goes although I feel pretty tired enough.

@Raquel, since taking this I haven't drank any caffienated beverages, I have been drinking water and Propel that doesn't have adequate amounts though, and unsweetened ice tea sometiems. I haven't been eating anything high in sugar either.

I will try taking 2 benadryl if it persists. I don't know if I can survive another week like this, it really takes its toll on you lol.

Look at the label on the propel ... if it's Propel Invigorating water ... it has caffeine. And even though your tea is unsweetened ... it has to be decaf as well.

Not sure if you are having chocolate... but that has caffiene too.

Good luck and hopefully sweet dreams.

I've taken all the prescription sleep meds and none have worked for me. I've even taken Melatonin. I am on Trazodone(2 at bedtime) which helps some nights...some nights it doesn't. I have a sleep disorder in which my mind doesn't shut off at night...like the switch is stuck in the 'on' position.

I've also tried Lunesta...didn't work. It's also very expensive so my prescription for that one is on hold.

I've tried them all too... nothing works for me. Calms Forte works a little. I've tried Lunesta, was awake all night. Ambien, I hallucinated and had a panic attack. Trazadone, Sonata and Tylenol PM made my heart race, I take Zyrtec daily for allergies, but it doesn't make me sleepy anymore... etc etc etc. I have sleep apnea and insomnia, and I never get into a deep sleep... I even had to repeat my sleep study because I couldn't get to sleep! LOL!!! I would love a good night sleep, but I've just come to realize that until I lose the weight, it's not going to happen. For me, what works the best is doing 30 or more minutes of cardio in the evening, then taking a nice HOT shower, drinking a cup of hot tea and relaxing. Doesn't always work, but it at least relaxes me. Also, make sure you are getting enough magnesium in your diet. I always take my magnesium, calcium and D supps at night... it's supposed to help but yawn... obviously not for me. The truly bad thing is, if we get 6-8 hours of good sleep at night, it's easier to lose weight. SIGH. I wish you luck... but until then, welcome to the late night club, LOL
