Default How many calories?
My Dr told me to eat 600-800 calories a day and exercise 3-4 times a week. So far it's been ok since I've only done it for a week. But my gosh! I can't imagine doing this for very long. I'm not feeling the energy that I thought I would for the past 3 days and I think it's because I'm not eating enough.
What did your Dr say?
Remember....you can't loose 10 pounds without losing 1 first!

That is a very low calorie intake. I stay as close to 1200 a day as possible is what the nutritionist said... if you have low energy then I would bump up the calorie intake until you feel well. hope you feel better

i definitely agree with gottadothis, my doc also recommended 1100 - 1200 calories daily, and he told me 5 - 6 days a week of exercise! you have to have "gas in the car" the burn the calories! eating more of the right kinds of foods will give you the energy you need to burn the calories! i am not an expert, but theres my two cents

I agree too. I remember learning in my nutrition class in college that your body needs a minimum of 1200 cal daily just to function properly. If you figure out how many calories you need to maintain your current weight and subtract at least 500 cal from that and eat that amount daily, then you will lose weight. I eat around 1400-1500 cal per day currently.

Edited to add: Also, make sure you work out for at least 30 minutes 6 days a week. Good luck!!

I agree with the above posters. I'm diabetic and see both a nutritionist and my doctor who prescribes phen. They are totally independent of each other and both mentioned 1200 calories as the absolute minimum you should take in or your body goes into "starvation mode" and burns calories much slower. I usually have 1200-1400 calories. I'm supposed to be exercising 30 minutes 7 days a week, but I try to get in at least 5 days.

Thanks for all your input. I will for sure be bringing it up to my dr next week at my 2 week check up!

My clinic recomends 1000 calories but most days I am over that.

Wow, my doctor told me that under no circumstances am I to drop under 1200. He told me if I go any lower than that I'll still be losing weight, but I'll be in 'starvation' mode. but then again I am very close to my goal weight now.

my doctor didn't give me any guidelines. i am still eating like i always have, only not munching on everything because i am bored. and even though i would have wanted more of my dinner last night, i was not interested anymore after a normal helping. yesterday i came in under 1000 calories and today i am nowhere near 1000. as long as the weight keeps falling off i don't care how it happens

I went to the Dr today and she said that I need to add 200 more calories and really get in 800 instead of 600. She also said that I won't have to stay at these calories for a long time.
It worked though! I was there for my first weigh in (2 week) and I lost 10 lbs!!! Woo Hoo!!!
Remember....you can't loose 10 pounds without losing 1 first!

I only had just over 400 calories today. Is that bad? I feel fine energy wise. I just have no desire to eat. I mean, i had turkey cheese roll-ups for dinner (one slice of each x 2) and I thought i was going to burst wide open. i am burning more than i am taking in so i guess that is a good thing.
