Hi everyone.

I have been trying to lose weight for about 6 months now. I have been going to the gym 4-5 days per week, walking to work daily (1 mile), eating 4-6 small meals a day, drinking plenty of water. I saw a dietician who through a blood test determined I had an allergy to eggs and dairy, so I have cut all that out of my diet and replaced the protein with soy, chicken and fish. I still have seen only about a 7 pound weight loss in three months. I went and saw a doctor yesterday who is stumped beacause he says I seem to be doing everything right. He is running a glucose test and a thyroid test on me, and he said if those come back OK, he suggest I go on Phentermine to kick start my metabolism. I am about 190 pounds and need to be 135-140. My question is this....I don't have a problem with my appetite...is that all Phertermine does is suppress appetite? Will this drug help me?
Has anyone here shared my experience and seen results with Phentermine?

I would love to hear from any of you! Thanks!
Jen

Phentermine just helps suppress appetite. I don't think it will be of any benefit to you. Just keep working out and you should succeed. Good luck.

CW 226 12/4/06 (went to W. Loss doc w/ friend and snuck on scales). Only down 1 pound but am on day two of TOM. Doesn't look like I'm gonna get that goal.

Short term GoalGoal by Christmas Below 200 I don't care if its 199.

Long Term Goal Weight 175

I disagree with archery.

While phen does suppress the appetite, the amphetamine part of it raises your thermogenic temperature so you will burn more calories than normal. Your heart will beat a little faster than normal, and therefore you burn more calories than normal. That's why people sweat more and are more thirsty on it. The drug that is in phentermine goes directly to the part of the brain that controls body temperature, sleep patterns and something else I can't remember. (I read that on a drug interaction website).

If your Dr. thinks it's a good idea, I would try it. If you find it doesn't work either, then you can stop taking it. But give it at least a month to start working. Keep doing what you are doing while on it too. Maybe it will help jumpstart things for you.

Good luck.

ps. Try tracking your calories, you may be eating more than you think. Try to aim for 1500-1800 a day, that is a healthy amount to lose weight, without starving yourself. Especially since you work out, you could even go up to 1900-2000 and still be fine. I track my calories at Sparkpeople dot com.
