I finally made the call, and I have an appointment on Monday for a health check and I told the nurse I wanted to talk to them about getting a script for Phentermine Keeping my fingers crossed that they will give it to me, I'm tired of being fat and miserable and I think Phen might be the tool I need to help me make it work! So, I hope to be officially joining you guys soon! I'm 36 and have at least 120 pounds to lose... glad to be here, though! There are some very inspiring stories on here, you give me hope where I thought I had none left!

Duckling, Welcome. I, too, am new here, and talked with my doctor a few weeks ago. I went to him for back pain, as I had herniated disk surgery a few years ago, and was afraid the herniation was back. But I primarily went to ask him for the phen. I have NEVER asked a doctor for any kind of pills, ever. But I have been in pain for a long time, mostly my back, knees, and upper neck/shoulders. After an MRI showed a very small herniation, which he said wouldn't require surgery, he agreed with me that losing weight would reduce this strain on my body, so he readily gave me a script for the phen, 37.5 mg. He also prescribed it for my hubby. We are both more than 100 lbs overweight. He has been on it for two weeks, and lost more than 10 lbs, I have been on it for 4 days, and have lost 5 lbs. So far, I feel alright, the first day I felt nauseous most of the day, and a little worn out, almost like I had the flu. But the following day, I felt great! I am 37, and hope to get down to 150. I would be happy with 175, but if I can reach that, then I might as well try to go all the way. Good luck, and please keep posting!

Hi, Shannon, great to get to know another newbie I am sorry about your disk pain... hopefully that will ease as the weight comes off, which it looks as if you're on a great start! If I see even half that success rate it would be a huge improvement for me!

The appointment is tomorrow afternoon, I really, REALLY hope I leave with a script in hand, I've been so excited this weekend I can hardly think of anything else!

...Hm, well, after all of that, the short story is, no script yet she didn't say "no", but wants to run a boatload of tests, including a sleep study, she suspects I might have a sleep apnea, of all things... which frankly wouldn't surprise me, actually. I also have to get back for a fasting blood draw (I wish I'd thought to go ahead and fast the day of the appointment, because its a huge pain in the tuckus to go back now) but I'm going to try and get that done on Tuesday. The one thing that irritated me though was her lack of a sense of urgency... when I tried to discuss my weight she blew it off, saying she wanted all these tests first, and giving me a 'list' of things she wanted me to 'read very carefully, and think about' and that she'll 'talk to me in a month'. Well, her 'list' consisted of a bunch of tips that we all have heard a million times over... drink more water, avoid fatty foods, eat more vegetables, etc. IN other words, stuff that i KNOW I should be doing, but if I could DO them I wouldn't be asking for help... I really was disappointed, all I wanted was a phen script and I get literature on "sugar bad, exercise good" and a lecture on 'patience'??? Anyone who takes one look at me can see how urgent my problem is... I'm not quite 5 foot two and weight 250 pounds, I might not live to see 40 at this rte and she's preaching to me about patience adn telling me she'll talk to me in a month... I was SO ticked off I can't tell you! I am going to give her her "month" and see what her lab results say but if she won't give me the phen I will either find someone who will or order them online. I'm sick of not being taken seriously.

The only surprising thing was that my blood pressure was elevated, soemthinhg that (ironically) despite my weight has never beena problem for me... I hope that was just a fluke reading, otherwise it will be all the harder to get her to give me the ** for phen. She did say that once she had my results we'd talk about it and that she'd even consider a phen-Zoloft combo (I'd read on here some members are taking it and some found it was effective) and she calimed she'd consider it but I get the feeling she is kinf of anti-pill and would rather preach willpower alone. So we'll see.....

i too am new here. and new to phen, this is day 4.

i'd like to reply to:
including a sleep study, she suspects I might have a sleep apnea, of all things

first, you have a GOOD doctor. i initially, 3 months ago went to the doctor (first time in decades) because i could no longer control my depression. i had bought an online wellbutrin and that wasn't helping.

i took the sleep study. at 1:30 in the morning he woke me up and put the mask on. it was amazing, i dreamed. it had been years since i had dreamed. i immediatedly called the doctor and asked if i could start the machine that night. no, the insurance needs time. I had severe sleep apnea, i was clinical depressed because i never reached REM sleep. 3 months on the machine and my head is cleared and the depression is gone.

the experience makes me just a bit evangelical about sleep apnea and CPAP machines. they are NOT snake oil. it is a legitimate solution to a problem that effects maybe 5% of the adult population. if you snore, if you wake up in the morning tired, if you are fat. get a sleep test. your bed partner can not always hear the apneas (your throat closes because the muscle relax and the lack of oxygen awakens your brain). i was having nearly an apnea a minute, 50 an hour, my oxygen level was dangerously low.

the CPAP machine may not have saved my life but it gave it back. my sister in law died from the complications of sleep apnea because neither she nor her companions pushed for the tests and machine.

if you doctor recommends a sleep test. do it. it is not the latest monthly disease that the medical professions seems to dream up. it is real.

Hi guys,
I am new as well, however I have been taking Phen for almost 4 months. I have lost a total of 27 lbs, and have about 20 more to go. I have been trying to also do 1200 cal. per day, and I exercise hard about 4-5x per week. I feel so much better, and it is nice to be able to stop obsessing about how self conscience I am and instead focus on others. I actually enjoy the food I eat, and feel that I can make this a lifestyle change, instead of dieting. I have come to the point where I do not obsess about the amount of weight I lose per week, but I try to focus on the way I feel, and the health benefits of my new lifestyle. I have 4 kids, and I really want to be the healthiest I can to keep up with them. My new short term goal is to get to the weight where I am not considered "overweight", for which I have about 4 more pounds. When I do reach that goal, it will have been over 13 years since I have been that weight,(since before my 3rd child).

My brother has sleep apnea too - he says it is amazing how much better he feels since getting his Darth Vader mask . When the doc told him he wanted to do a sleep study my brother told him he was crazy that he slept just fine. Well come to find out, he stopped breathing 40 times an hour. He has lost weight since getting the CPAP and feels more rested and has a ton more energy! Give it a try - you never know.....

Sorry I dropped out of communication for a while... it is now what, two weeks later, and last night was ym first night with my little CPAP machine on the nightstand next to the bed… I opted for the little “nasal pillows” instead of the Vader mask… I must say I don’t feel THAT much better, but they said it might take a few nights. I had a hard time getting comfortable, and other factors like a disrupted sleep schedule this week (I do community theatre, and the show opens Friday so all bedtimes for the next few nights are pretty much screwed up!) and a bit of mild conflict with hubby over completely unrelated matters probably had a LOT to do with it. I was pleased that the machine is not much louder than, say, the fan we have going in the bedroom in the summer time. Tonight I will make a better effort to get to bed sooner and relax a bit more. I have been reading more on sleep apnea and related health issues and I do have a TON of the symptoms associated with it, some I knew about and others completely surprised me, I had no idea so many health problems could be contributed to crappy sleep!

I finally got in for that blood draw, so we’ll see what the bad news is there… I’m still really hopeful about the CPAP machine and I still really want to try phen. Hopefully the improved sleep will bring that blood pressure down and then perhaps the Dr. will be willing to let me give it a try. I am at my heaviest (non-pregnant) weight ever and want to live to see 40!
