My sister and I are both nursing students. We are doing it together which helps a lot. We have just started though and are just finishing up our prerequesite (spelling) classes, but hec even they were hard! So are you doing the RN program or the LPN? I look forward to talking to you more! Have a great day!

I am also a nursing student. I am completing my BSN and then going on to anesthesiology school to become a CRNA. It's A LOT of hard work and sacrifice for my family. I think one of the hardest things for me to get through was chemistry. At my university you have to take an honors chemistry course for science majors for the BSN. I can't even do basic chem for non-science majors! Let's keep in touch and motivate each other to lose weight and to graduate!
I gained 20 pounds my first year but it's almost gone now!
Hello! I am also a nursing student. I will apply in October and hopefully will be accepted. I have a good GPA but alot of people apply.
I am in summer school now and will also take fall classes. I know what you mean about gaining weight, I am so stressed out all the time I just want to eat. The phen has helped though.
Microbiology was my hardest class so far. How I ever got out of there with a B, is still an unsolved mystery.
I am working on my Myspace page. Will let you know when it's up with pics.

Im in nursing school.. and graduates in may of next year... Its a whole lot of work... and the tendency to grab a donut or muffin with those dunkin donut coffee runs is horrible. You are so busy and consumed and its hard to concentrate on barely anything else. Now that its is summer I am trying to get my eating habits correct so by the time fall semester starts again I can just concentrate on school.. Good luck everyone
I'm doing my pre-req's as well. I'm taking three classes now for summer English, Math and Anatomy & Physiology. In the fall I have six classes and in the spring I have six classes and then if my GPA is high enough I'll go on to clinicals in the fall of 2007. Is it just me or do you have to go through what seems like boot camp before you get to clinicals??
Kamillya
Kamil,
I totally agree with you about feeling like you are in boot camp. Actually this time around has been a killer. Let me explain by this time around, when I graduated I went to college for 4 years. No I did not get a degree because I switched my major several times, then couldn't decided what I wanted to be when I "grew up" so gave up.
Anyway well now at 30, I finally decided to go back and get my nursing. BTW that was my major in my first and second year of college. Anyway the moral to this story is I took academic bankruptcy which erased all my past college history. I done this so I would have a higher chance in getting into clinicals. LAst year at McNeese Univ. they put into effect 3 different catagories in which students are accepted. 1st catagory is students that started at McNeese as freshman, they are top pick. 2nd is students with 12 or less transfer hours, if any slots are open then they start from this list, then the 3rd is students with 12 or more transfer hours. Well if I would have transfered those I would have been so far down on the list, I would have grey hair; walking with a cane before I would be accepted.
When I took these classes before they were not near as hard as they are today. I think has to do with what school you go to. A&P 1 had me working overtime last semester, if was 5x harder than I remember it being. I take A&P 2 in the fall. I am also taking English and college algebra right now in the summer.
Hopefully we can all give each other encouragement because there are days I need it, as i'm sure everyone feeling the pain also does.

I didn't know A & P would be this tough and I'm taking an 8 week course appose to the traditional 12-15 week course. I be looking at my proffesor sometimes like "how do you remember all that stuff, and what are you talking about?" I love studying the science of the body but all this mess about DNA and molecules is driving me crazy. The second day of class we had a quiz. Thursday is my fourth class and we have our first major test on the first three chapters. Go figure!
Kamillya
Yes I decided to take Biology in the fall hoping it will give me enough time to catch on.I had a quizz last week also.I forgot to add OH MY for the cost of books!!!! do they have any books that cost less than $100Thank goodness I was able to buy one book from a past student. But then I hear they switch them up for updated version. Iam going to try and buy my biology books early if possible. well with prayer and since we are all in the same boat at least I know we will be praying for each other

I will be graduating in December of this year. I graduated in Nov.2004 from LPN schoo. I know what everyone is talking about. Nursing school is very stressful and demands much study time. A FYI for all you science students. I learned that it is best to learn and understand the information verses trying to memorize it. If you know the information, you will be able to pass the test. Believe me this works, because I have done it in A&P (1,2)and microbiology. I got an A in A&P and a B in micro just by learning the material. Hope this information helps someone.
FYI for all the students having to buy expensive books! I usually go to the bookstore a few days before the new semester starts and get names and authors of the books I will need. Then I go home and go to Amazon and look up the books. I have had some good luck this way! They are used books but hey it sure saves a bunch of money if you can find one on amazon. Last quarter I paid $4 for a book that the bookstore was charging $98 for!!! You can't beat that!!
Lucy
Yeah me too. I am taking 2 summer classes and my 3 books would have cost me 480 in the bookstore but I got away with 137 shipping and all from half dot com.
Kamil,
I'm in my 2nd year of RN school. It's very hard...as someone said, like boot camp. We started out with 84 and now have less than 30. I was a straight A student in my prereq's...now, I'm lucky to make a B. Clinicals have opened my eyes to how hard nurses work and also why they become burned out. I think it's great we have so many nursing students on this board. It's a great field to get into.

I am a previous nursing student who failed out and now I am in a new school. TRust me when I say that nursing school is hard. The first time around I didnt take it seriously and had a hard time studying. Clinicals were easy for me it was the lecture part that kicked my ***!! I finally learned to study, (I never had to study in my previous schooling)Get a good study group together - trust me it helps.
