    Default Losing weight before baby.

Hi all. New to the forum. I started Phen a week ago today. I'm feeling great and lost 7 pounds. My goal is to lose as much as I can before May at which time I'd like to start trying for baby #2. I've never been "skinny" but was a size 8-10 for most of my life and a 10-12 after getting married. I gained 50 plus pounds with my first pregnancy most of which stayed on my body. My daughter just turned four and here I am, still heavy. So, I decided to get some of this extra weight off before getting pregnant again. I would hate to be putting more weight on top of extra weight.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else out there is in the same boat or if some of you have managed to lose weight before getting pregnant. Also, how the heck will I not gain 50 pounds with a second preganancy???

I was in the same boat as you. I had also managed to gain about 50-55 pounds with my pregnancy. I had my son October 08'. I too have never really been "skinny". I was around 145 when I got pregnant,About a size 10, and the day before I gave birth I was 200. . Luckily I have managed to take it off with lots of exercise and healthy eating. Oh and the help of phentermine of course. But most of it was me. To answer your question about wether you will gain an additional 50 the second time around, that all depends on you. A good start is what you are doing right now. Definately try to take as much off as you can before May. I told myself, because I too will like to try for baby "2" in the summer time, that this time around, I will continue to exercise, and not eat everything that I craved and wanted. Believe me I ate plenty when I was pregnant. I believe you can control the amount of weight you gain during pregnany, but it won't be easy. My biggest mistake was I gave up exercise. Good luck!!!!

Hi All, I'm newbie on here too.

You about hit the nail right on the head as far as being in the same boat. I have always been about a size 10-12. When I got married a little over a year ago I was a size 12 and weighed in at around 168. (Which I was sorta comfortable with) This past Thrursday I weighed in at an embarrasing 209. I have been avoiding the scale for the last 2 months just because I had a feeling that I was over 200. And I was right. I have ballooned into a size 16 and I feel just terrible about it.

My husband and I talked a few months ago about trying to conceive our first baby after the holidays. Well its after the holidays and I'm in no shape to get pregnant now. I recently had to talk to him about putting those plans on hold until I'm able to drop some weight. He was totally fine with it, but it was embarrsing for me anyway. I would like to drop at least 30lbs by May 1st, we'll see if I can do it.

I started taking phen on Friday 2/12, so today is only my 5th day. I don't want to get on the scale yet because I'm afraid it too early, and if I haven't lost a decent amount I think it will discourge me.

Congratulations to you on the 7lbs, that's great! Are you eating anything specific that you can recommend? Good luck to you!

    Congratulations on your 7 lbs!

I'm not exactly in the same boat because I already have 2 children and we're still on the fence about having a 3rd. If we do have a 3rd, it will be a couple of more years because my youngest is just 16 mos now. I gained 40-50 lbs with both of my pregnancies too. I was 200 lbs by the time I had my first baby. I did lose it all on my own but it took me 18 months, lots of exercise, and lots of will power as far as eating right. It was so hard but I wanted to lose it before baby #2. After losing the weight, I got pregnant with #2 just two months after losing the weight and my oldest was 20 months. That's what I wanted but I must say that losing the weight the second time around after only being thin for two months was sooooo hard! Those first 20 lbs did not "fall off" like they did with the first baby. I got home from the hospital with #2 and 6 weeks later I'd only lossed 10 lbs. No joke! I thought... good grief, my baby weighed 7.5 lbs, you'd think I'd lossed more than 10! So a year later, and two months of Phentermine, I got it all off.

If I have a 3rd, I am determined to not gain as much weight. If you really look up the diet of a pregnant woman, you only need to add 300 calories, which is just one more mini meal. So overall, you're looking at 2300 calories a day because you should be eating 2000 calories or less a day to maintain a healthy weight. I am going to be VERY cautious about my calories and only add my daily 300. As long as you are getting all of the vitamins and nutrients in that you should for the baby, there is no need to overeat or "eat for 2". Everyone told me all the time, "you're eating for 2"... no I'm not! I'm also going to keep my exercise up, walking everyday, etc. I exercised right through the 9th month with my second and I really think it helped me stay positive and helped my labor be faster and easier, as well as recovery.

I hope you get to where you want to be!! I would try to stay on this site and maybe join some kind of "pregnant and fit" forum so that you can hold yourself accountable and enjoy a healthy pregnancy!

Thank you all for the responses. It actually helps so much just to see I'm not alone. I've actually felt so guilty for not doing something about the extra weight sooner - not for lack of trying I must say. I've been trying to lose the extra baby weight since the day I came home from the hospital, but I have such a difficult time sticking with anything long-term. Two years ago I managed to get down to 168 and I thought I was on my way. Then, our family got a series of difficult news and it was downhill from there. I'm almost afraid to get excited about losses now because it's like I don't trust myself to keep it up. Argh! Why is this so darn hard?

Anyway, thanks for listening. Slave2Food - Keep your chin up. I know how difficult it must be to go through the losses. Keep trying and praying.

Hugs to all...Hoping for losses this week.

Hi! I am kinda in the same boat. My motivation was to get healthly to have another baby. I have been off of Birth control for 3 years and we were ttc, but nothing happened. I think a lot was stress related. But now I am trying to lose the weight so I can be healthier when I do get pg. My son is 4 1/2 and I feel like we need to try in a few months so they won't be too far apart. Good luck with everything! You can do it!

I feel ya hun. I went through my first pregnancy overweight and I don't want to do that ever again. My son turned 3 in December and I want to lose as much weight as I can before June so that hubby and I can try for #2. I've lost 11 in the past month but I've been having medical problems that are messing with my progress. It's really frustrating but I just want to get everything fixed so that I can get back into the gym. Feel free to hollar if you need some advice or encouragement.
