    Default Womens American Clothes sizes??

    Hi there. Help!
    I know that an American size 0 is our size 4.

    Some1 on the chat thing the other night (the only person I have ever seen on there, LoL) told me ur sizes go up in 2's like our's do..........

    So the conversion would be like
    American - British
    0 - 4
    2 - 6
    4 - 8
    6 - 10
    8 - 12
    10 - 14
    12 - 16
    14 - 18
    16 - 20

    But I have seen a couple of people on here say that they have got down to like a size 15 and people say they are an odd number size clothes.

    Whats the deal with clothes sizes?, LoL.

    Just pair it up with the even size below it, like a 15 would basically be a 14. Odd sizes seem to run a little smaller (I think), but maybe it's just me.

    soo..

    I'd say jeans usually run 2,4,6 in designer stores... but in department stores they usually are 1,3,5,7 and so on.

    so a 14,15 American would be an 18 British according to your equivalent.

    Wow that is confusin. But get it now, LoL.
    Half sizes is good tho cos it can get annoyin here wen alot of the time u try on one size and they are to big but the smaller size down is alittle to tight.

    yeah I always find I fit better in even sizes, like a 14 fits me, even a 12 sometimes.. but a 15 is always super tight. It's weird. Maybe they are just a different cut. haha who knows.

    Odd numbered sizes are frequently "juniors" sizes, as opposed to "womens" sizes

    juniors are odd, kids? I think you might be back to evens for kid sizes, but I don't have any kids and it's been a while since I bought them, so I'm not positive... haha we are so confusing!!

    "Junior" sizes would be like teenage girl sizes. Like my 13 year old wears a size 3...

    You all have it now, except for one thing.

    Juniors/teenagers are odd sizes
    Women's are even sizes

    American clothing does go up and down in 2's, but 15's are NOT 14's. 15's are more like 16's.

    When I was young many jeans had two sizes on the tag for example, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, 15/16, 17/18, 19/20. Now they only seem to put one size on a tag but that is how they fit together. So 15's are closer to 16's not 14's. Reason being, Junior girls have not had their hips fill out yet. Women have and so the jeans are slighty larger for women to fit those fuller hips. If you think about it, it makes sense. Teens tend to have straight figures and women have more curves so our jeans have to be bigger.

    I am currently wearing a size 11 in Juinors, but I can wear a 10 in womens.

    None of the sizes here make any sense.... they just slap numbers on them... there is no guide that all clothing makers go by... so I have sizes from 3 - 7/8 in jeans

    I'll add a little more confusion to the game with the concept of "vanity sizing". If you are a little bored...feel free to do a search, it will boggle the mind.

    designers have strayed from one uniform size being associated with one set of measurements. I am a fan of vintage clothing and I have a few of my mother's old dresses from the 60's and 70's and what is labeled as a size 14 in the 60's...is about a size 10 maybe a 12 by today's measurements if you were to measure the garment.

    There was a study performed that by changing those sizes to a more appealing number somewhat removed the stigma associated with a larger dress size. I'm going to use one store for example that uses what I would call vanity sizing...and that is Torrid (sorry to those that shop there....i've gotten a few pieces from there and i like some of their things).

    For their panties and a couple of other garments....they are sized 00-4....where 00 is equivalent to about a size 12 maybe a 14. Feels kinda good when you can say...I wear a 00. .

    I'm starting to get away from numeric sizing and just keeping track of my measurements because I could wear a 12 in some brands...14 in others...16 in yet another brand and then don't let me go overseas...I would probably wear a UK18.

    Some designers have gotten slick with re-numbering the dress sizes because they know that if its a smaller size...the person will feel better about wearing the smaller size and continue to patronize their wares.

    Yes vintage clothing is TOTALLY different.... and I notice the 5's and 7's I wear now I was wearing in highschool only I was 20 lbs lighter.... yep they are sneeky... shoot I even have 3's but I figure it's a typo HAHAHA!!

    Agai I am different. I am wearing the same size cloths I wore in HS too only I weigh less now! I can wear some cloths a little smaller but mostly the same and I weigh about 15-18 pounds less than I did my sophmore year! I just chalked it up to child birth and hips!
