Well I figured out where I went wrong.

Which it is not. It is not endorsed by the Mayo Clinic at all. I bought the book for the second diet not the first.
I have been doing a modified version of this, and it seems to be going well, but this means there is nothing magic about eating bacon which is good. I actually think the magic is in the amount of vegetables being eaten along with the amount of protein and lack of carbohydrates.
I feel really that I'm just doing my own kind of atkins without acutally knowing all the details about atkins.

I had a bad day yasterday. At lunch I had a salad and grapefruit juice but after an hour or so I was starving so I cheated and had some peanutbutter and crackers. I felt sooo bad afterwards. Then after dinner I had some saltines. I know I cant beat myself for this but I hate that "fell off the wagon. I had a tooth pulled today so other than a couple bites of frozen yogert to take before a couple pain pills I wont be able to eat normally. Ill get back to the program tomorrow.

This sounds super easy. I'm gonna start next week and try to last throughout the month of March. I love ruby red grapefruit (is this ok or does it have to be regular grapefruit?) I HATE turkey bacon so I will substitute with sausage. I also don't drink coffee and I hate tea, but I've been training myself to drink tea because it has so many health benefits. As far as grapefruits yes u can have the red ruby that's what I eat alsoand yr allowed to have regular bacon also! About the tea I haven't been having the tea or coffee and still been losing well! I'm really getting tired of so much salad and chicken but this plan is hard for me to stop now cause I been seeing the scale go down so much and don't wanna see it stop lol! I kinda modify the plan to any more like yesterday I had a hand full of Spanish peanuts but I was still down today so thst was a plus! I have cheated several times with my cool whip n carrot cake to but goodness I love my sweets and wheh I start craving them it's so hard not to have. A little lol! Hey there, wow I had never heard of this before until on here, so ur friend is going to fast for 40 days? Does that mean fast for one meal a day for 40 days? Cause I wouldn't think someone could fast 40 days straight lol! Unless fasting is something else other then what I'm thinking ofwhen my church dies fasting they usually fast a whole day. I'm not bored of chicken and salad because I don't eat just that very often:
Right now I eat a couple of tomatoes, some celery and a protein shake at lunch.
Dinner has been things like:
Meatballs with sauce (sugar-free natural ingredients ofc) and a little salad on the side
Noodle-less lasagna (ground Italian sausage browned, tomato sauce, home-canned tomatoes (only celery and water added), organic tomato paste to thicken (one ingredient: tomatoes), mushrooms, olives (sometimes), squash or zucchini, and some part-skim mozzarella cheese (yep cheated))
Fully cooked frozen chicken breasts (it has some kind of seasoning on it, can't remember, but it has no sugar) with either a salad or some veggies.
When I say salad, I don't always mean a leafy lettuce salad. To be honest I don't really like those kinds. I also made a salad that was just chopped tomatoes, artichokes and a little light Italian type dressing. Or chopped tomatoes, cucumbers and a similar dressing. Not always the most flavorful, but I love tomatoes so much (if you didn't notice) that I can eat them with anything or nothing. Although tomatoes with salt is ick!
I use the grapefruit as more of a treat for the sugar cravings. Idk but the tart sweetness works for me.
Anyway, I'll get on the scale when I get into my goal pants.![]()

I am having a really hard time with this because I am also getting tired od a salad and chicken. I do ok at dinner time but my mornings are so cramped for time that I dont have time to cook breakfast and then make a salad for lunch. I am running around with the kids getting them ready its crazy. My days at work are so hectic that I dont even have time to sit down and eat so forget leaving and getting something. I am really at a loss here....any suggestions?
One thing I learned about losing weight is:
you MUST have breakfast. You need protein to start your day well.
I know it doesn't follow the "rules" but a protein shake in the morning is going to beat nothing hands down. The one I use has 30g of protein and 5g of carbs and 130 calories. It is called Premier Nutrition High protein chocolate shake. I got it at costco, but any you pick I recommend you read the label. A lot of the "weight loss" shakes have a lot of carbs and this diet is about avoiding carbs for the most part.
I don't have kids, I'm just not a morning person, so in considering doing this (which I don't exactly) I thought about pre-cooking the bacon and having it with boiled eggs, so if you don't want a shake you might try that.
Also for lunch, if you cant make a salad then don't. Take with you some pre-cut veggies like carrots, tomatoes, celery, cucumbers and then some slices of deli meat or something, and just eat it like that. I eat tomatoes at lunch mainly. If you don't have time to cut the veggies, often you can find some pre-cut veggies in the produce section. I don't like broccoli cold, but that might be another option, they always have those dip trays with lots of cut up veggies, you could just grab some of those to take with you. I generally just put some in a ziplock bag and eat it at my desk at lunch time. I usually don't eat all of the celery I bring at lunch time but I snack on it later if feel hungry or just want some.![]()

When i got my first phen script way back when my dr gave me a diet of no whites... only fruits & veggies, low fat dairy & lean meats. So i dunno thinking of switching to that.. not sure.

Just wanted to jump in and say I started back today with 1/2 phen,and go Tuesday to get B-12,and HCG shots again...I was really starting to notice a difference in my stomach with the HCG on my 4th visit before(months ago) and had to stop with all the drama going on...soooo...here I go again.....I turn 50 in Oct....and for some reason it has really starting bugging me...and no one can make the changes except for me...glad I have you guys to hold me accountable! Hey Taz My birthday was great!! It was a nice break away from work and the kids! I have been soo terribly sick this whole week so I did not return to my diet nor have I taken my phen (needed antibotics) but Monday I'm hitting it full blast.I'm thinking of joining the gym as well because I am losing weight but looking like a sharpei lol ( so I am hoping with enough exercise I can tighten up some) Prob not much hope for my belly since having my seven gifts from abovebut I'll try anyway. I'm thinking of going to the gym at 6:15 am when I get out of work I have about an hr and a half before the kids have to get up for school. I am really thankful for this journey to this day I have lost 65 lbs and have been able to maintain the first 50 for over a year. I'm soo happy to read all of everybody's post and updates. Well got a go to work so have a great sunday night and monday morning!
Hi I understand completely. I know as far as lunch and dinner goes you can def. have fish!! I'm not sure about the breakfast thing I always eat my 2 turkey bacon and eggs. I know other people are making subsitutions for various reasons and say it is not affecting the results. So I say try doing what you can and see what happens. Best of luck![]()
This is a fad diet! This diet is not from the Mayo Clinic and never has been... do some research on your own if you don't beleive me... I searched google under The New Mayo Clinic Diet and it was about four down. Anyway, if you see a doctor for the Phen why don't you just eat what the doctor tells you to eat?

Furthermore the orginal poster is one of the most successful people on this forum and has lost over 120 lbs! She doesn't even take phentermine. She would never post anything to lead someone astray. She has done nothing but help several people over the past year and then some.
Anyway this is a forum for people to share ideas and to try new things. There are a lot of things discussed on here that could be considered "fad diets".
I second that TG4 - you go girl! Stephanie if you would have read the whole thread then you would notice that this has never been endorsed as the actual Mayo Clinic diet. Everyone on this site has different things that work for them and their body in this weight loss journey. We are all here to share ideas and motivate each other. So instead of slamming successful people that have done nothing but continue to inspire, encourage and motivate others take some time to find what works for you.
SO I finally lost the 9 I gained over the holidays in 3 weeks!!! I started this eating plan yesterday and I really think it kicked in my loss. Tomorrow I just know I will be in the 180's and it has been way too long since that has happened. Thanks again for posting this. I actually like the grapefruits.

Everyone is different and not everything works for everyone no matter who you are.
Any way I admit to being a little dissapointed once I found out this was a "fad" diet too, but then I thought about it, and re-read the food ingredients.
It is a very Low Carb diet like Atkins, but more strict in a way. There are studies that show grapefruit can help aid weight loss but they seem inconclusive. So that may or may not be a key, hard to tell. (try it for yourself, I personally like grapefruit so I eat it)
But salad and lean meats? Low carb and good for you. The bacon.. well I coudn't find turkey bacon so I am not so sure that is the best part of this, but it is also the worst thing you eat... all day. and you eat it first thing.. so you have all day to work it off.
So yeah, I personally used this as an excuse to re-evaluate my own eating and change things up. Use it how you will, it is working for some and at the very least inspiring to others.
