Phen is like speed, I have heard you can become addicted to it. My doctor was sure to ask me if I have had a drug or Alcohol addiction in the past, I am not sure if I would have been given it if I said yes. I would contact your doctor and talk to him about your fears, you may just be having some anxiety issues which is a side effect of this medication. Good luck!!!!
Why do you think you are addicted? Is it because of how the phen makes you feel? Or because you don't think you can do it without it?
I'm addicted to losing weight. I have forgotten to take my phen before, and I got through the day just fine. It doesn't 'do' anything for me though other then suppress my appetite (though I do get hungry on phen!) and raise my metabolism.
I've been on phen for almost 4mo. When it comes time for me to go off of it, I will wean myself off. Only because I will have taken for quite a while and I do not want to shock my body. So I will go from taking one 37.5mg pill a day to half a pill per day, then half a pill every other day until they are gone. That way it will be a gradual process rather than just one day it's there and the next it isn't.
im scared it did something to my heart i was only taking 1/2 of a 37.5 pill for 20 days the lady at my heart drs said just stop taking it i have very bad anxiety and am am ativan and now going on klonopin for the aniety canit damge heart in 20days
My family Dr. who prescribed Phen for me says that it's addictive but not in the way that normal addiction works. He says he wouldn't worry unless a person was at goal, under weight or near anorexic and still felt like they needed to take it. You might get headaches or shaky when not taking it but a true addiction is when you feel like you need it to function. I sometimes get headache when I wait until later to take it but a IBU works just fine to rid me of that problem. I was on Phen last year for 3 months and then stopped for 9 months and started it again 2 months ago for another 3 month cycle. i was afraid of becoming addicted too and decided to take myself off slowly but ended up taking myself off in less than a week. No addiction, and No problems! That was after 3 months. My husband was also worried about me becoming addicted and that is why I had the conversation with my doctor. some people have an addicting personality which means they are prone to become addicted to things easier than others are. i am llike that but still not addicted. I have 30 days left of my script and have no intentions of taking anymore Phen after that. i don't forsee a problem of going off either. With this said i would also recommend talking to your doctor about your concerns. if you have been addicted to substances in the past you may need to be monitored carefully or taken off altogether. good Luck and I hope I helped.

You see a heart doctor?? If so, I am surprised they would put you on a medication like this, since it's a stimulant. But I suppose it depends on why you see a heart doctor.
As for damaging your heart. I think if you are a healthy female with no prior cardiac problems and only used this about 3 weeks then the odds of you doing permanent damage to you heart is slim however I gotta scratch my head here and wonder what Cardiologist would put you on this? No matter how much weight you had to lose.
I would speak to my doctor about the symptoms that your having. Ativan and Klonopin are some heavy Benzo's to be on if you needed them to control the anxiety then a drug that can have a side effect of exacerbating those symptoms should have NEVER been used.
Increase your water intake, get plenty of rest and make sure your eating a very healthy diet. No alcohol. Make sure your taking a good Multi vitamin with B complex. (I WOULD SPEAK TO A DOCTOR PRIOR TO ADDING IN B12)The unpleasant side effects should pass within a couple of weeks. The drug alters Serotonin levels and it can take a bit of time for them to return to normal.
Within the medical community there are arguments as to what defines addictions. Some believe that any time a drug is stopped and withdrawal symptoms appear there was an addiction.
Like I said. I'm not a Doctor this is only my opinion and I feel the best advice is to express the symptoms to your doctor and follow his/her advice.
There can actually be two ways to consider addiction.
One is a mental addiction, which means you THINK you cannot function or make it without the "thing" you are addicted to. This type of addiction is mostly in your head. If you have this type of addiction you most likely don't even know it. Many people who are mentally addicted to something will deny it. People around them who care are the ones who are most likey to notice and try to help.
Physical addiction is when your body is actually addicted to a chemical. This is the type of addiction you are most likely to notice yourself.
Either way an addiction is dangerous and unhealthy. If you feel like you may be addicted to something no matter what it is you should talk to your doctor about it pronto!
