I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago, and was put on Metformin. I was on Metformin for about a year, but it didn't help me much. I am now on Byetta and love it! It has helped with all but one of my PCOS symptoms. I feel better than I have in years.
Let me know if you have specific Metformin questions.

My weight loss doctor put me on metformin due to insulin resistance. He says it will help regulate my body's ability to process carbs and sugar and make it easier to lose weight. I am on 1000mg of the XR at bedtime. I have not noticed any side effects since I take it at night. Anything that will help me lose weight I am all for! Plus I have struggled so long with my weight and it makes sense that insulin restistance plays a big role with gaining weight and making it harder to lose weight. Insulin resistance can lead to diabetes and the metformin can help ward off diabetes. Getting to a healthy weight and eating healthy can prevent the diabetes or at least put if off for years! For me its very hereditary so I have to do this for my health! I usually do not like taking very many pills but my doctor was very informative and made me feel comfortable about taking the metformin. Hope this helps!

Jasp, how do you find metformin? Do you have any side effects? One of my friends with diabetes hesitates either she should take this drug or not. It is said that metformin can develop lactic acidosis. This doesn’t sound too good. Maybe you can share your experience of being treated with metformin for more than 2 years?
