    Default Atlanta area doctor?

    Hi all,

I had great success with Phentermine last summer and lost 30 lbs. I have about 20 more lbs to go before I reach my goal and I'm hitting a wall. I'd like to start phen again to jump start myself. The doctor I saw last summer was very expensive ($155 for each month of phen and had to be purchased directly from doctor).

Can anyone suggest a doctor in the north Atlanta metro area (Northwest Gwinnett, South Forsyth, North Fulton) who will prescribe phen? My PCP and Endo aren't going for it since I am overweight but not obese. I am open to drive a outside of my area if necessary.

Thanks so much for any help!!

Good luck! I would love to know the doctor's name if you can find one. I am currently going to a weight loss clinic as well because I am not obese and can't get my pcp to give me a script either. Like you, I have tried multiple times to lose this last 25lbs and the scale simply wouldn't budge prior to me getting on phen.

I see Dr. Fred Bass in Newnan (just down I-85 south of the airport). Coweta Medical Clinic. $80 initial visit gets you a one month phen prescription, $40 per month followup visit. He has a huge practice, never heard of anyone getting turned down for a prescription.

Thanks, Bob! That is quite a drive for me but worth it if I can save hundreds of dollars. Is it a weight loss clinic or medical practice? When I call for an appt do I say I am looking for weight loss help?

    Thanks again!

They only do weight loss and happily answer questions over the phone.

Smile Doctor in Georgia - your answer

Okay, well I live in Fayetteville Georgia and all I did was call my primary care physician under my United Healthcare insurance. There are five doctors there and I have seen Dr. Goodjoin, and Dr. Bejere. Dr. Goodjoin was the first that I spoke to about wanting to lose weight and that I had friends that told me how good this worked. He gave me 1 month and told me if my BP was okay after a month I could have a 6 month refill. Bingo! I paid $20 for my copay visit (ONE) and I get my prescrip filled at WalMart or Walgreens for about $28 - 30 a month.
NOW, that being said, I found out the other day (SHOCK) that my insurance has phentermine as a drug that is a maintenence drug for weight loss, therefore, if i can get my doc to give me a 3 month prescrip, I can fill it via mail order (3 months) for $20. Cant beat it. Check into that on your insurance, and by all means, check out going to your regular doc or primary care physician if you have copays.
For $20 for 1 visit and $29 a month for meds, not bad.
The docs I see are Dr. Goodjoin (not sure if these show up in Fayetteville GA or Riverdale GA, close to the line). Dr. Larry Bejere, Dr. Laura Dean, ... all in the same group. PHone number there is 770-716-7999. Give them a call. They accept most all insurance.

I'll be damned. I have UHC health insurance too and Dr. Goodjoin is on my "preferred doctors" list for my plan.

I've got a doctor's appt this morning but I think from here on out I'll go see Dr. Goodjoin.

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately, my insurance will only pay if the doctor is listed as my PCP or if I have a referral from my PCP. I'm not sure if Phentermine is a covered prescription (I have BCBS HMO). I wish my PCP would prescribe it, but he's not going for it.

Ugh. I just called Dr. Bass's office and he doesn't have an opening until July 23rd. Business must be booming there! I really don't want to wait that long, so I will have to figure out another plan.

Thank you so much! I too have UnitedHealth Care! I was actually given a 3 month refill and I did not ask, I guess she knew something I did not! Thanks for sharing the info!

I would recommend my doctor(dekalb co)however, she will not give it to you until you have actually tried weight loss alone under her supervision, and been unsuccessful for at least 1 month or so. She is my primary care phyiscan, so she knows my entire medical history. I saw her in April, she insisted on calorie reduction. Went back in June and her Pa gave me the script. I had gained more weight. (The Pa is also taking Phen, so I think she understood how I felt, had a baby gained a bit, tried to loose, stopped nursing, gained 20lbs,etc...)Total cost, office visit and script $62

Hope you find a doctor, please post when you do.

    ceadamso, thanks a bunch!

Hey, I'm up in Cobb County. I have a doc that give scripts for $75 a visit (which includes a physical and B12 shot). They work 5-8 PM Monday-Friday and Saturday mornings. Give them a buzz 7704230494. Good luck

    Avigael-
Look up Dr. Smith. He has several locations in Atl(I'm sure one is in Sandy Springs.)
His website is www.drsmithprogram.com. They are having a special until Aug.31st that you can get 2, 3, or 4 months worth of visits and prescriptions for a much discounted price. I go to the one in Kennesaw and they are very nice and easy to deal with!!

Just to say I love people from Georgia and everything peaches =). I am planning (hopefully) to transfer from NYC to UGA or GA State in the next semester.

My bf went to the Dr. Smith program.
