Default Is this your first time on a diet pill?

Is this the first time that you are on diet pills or have you been on them before? If you have been on them before what caused you to gain the weight back?

For me I have been on diet pills since I have been 17 on and off. It started with an old time doctor that felt every women should be stick thin and he put me on them without asking when I weighted 135 lbs at 5' 5". That was almost 30 yrs ago and at that time they used Tenuate. I went down to 103 and I didn't look good at all but he thought I was great. This caused me to used them off and on for almost 10 yrs until right before I got pregnant with my first son.. After my first baby which I gained almost 100 lbs and after breastfeeding I went to a diet doctor and was put on black beauties (another diet pill) I was able to get back down to 105 in six months losing over 100 lbs but I could only eat 800 cal a day and that counted drinking also and I fasted 2 x's a week. I also rode the bike 14 miles a day. It was crazy and I became obsessed. No way to live. I later stopped riding the bike and I just relied on diet pills. I maintained 118-124 lbs. I didn't take them everyday but I used them when needed for a couple of years.

After my second son was born which once again I gained a lot of weight. After I was done breastfeeding I went to another Doctor and was put on the yellow jackets which is what the doctor called them. I got down to 155 (I only went to this doctor for 3 months) and just stayed there until about 5 yrs ago when my thyroid started to act up and I got sick. This is the highest weight I have been since I was 9 months pregnant. When they put me on steroids I really ballooned up.

This is the first time that I have tried Phentermine. I was given 37.5 but I break them in half. I'm hoping to get down to goal and then since my thyroid is now under control and I am off steroids I hope to be able to maintain that weight. I have curves and I look the best at 135-140. I'm also at the age of the start of menopause so I guess we will see what happens. I'm hoping with proper diet and power walking I will be able to regain my health and maintain my weight. I'm hoping to have 50 lbs off by November.

Yes, this is my first time taking a diet pill. I had never heard of phentermine until I visited my doctor back in December and discussed my options for weight loss. She mentioned that she wasn't a big fan of diet pills but that if I came back to her with a plan for how I was going to use them as a "jump start" to weight loss and an aid for motivation she would write me a script. So when I went home I started doing research on the different types of pills available and chose phentermine because it has been on the market the longest. So far I have been pleased with the results I have had.

3/18/09 started Phen the 1st time: weight 209 (started with 1/2 of a 37.5 pill)
    March - May 2009, I lost 30 lbs! I stopped taking phen.
    12/7/2009: 172.5
1/24/2012: back up to 194! : ( how did I let that happen?! got more phen and am back for another 3 months (wedding in Fall 2012...not going dress shopping until at least 20lbs comes off!)

I'm sorry you have had such a weight loss challenging life, I think the doctor who first put you on a diet pill was nuts..thats probably a reason why its so hard to get them now-a-days..because people use them to maintain or rely on them to lose weight when thier weigh is not out of a normal range. I may not have ever been on any prescribed diet pills before I started phen almost a year ago, but I tried just about everything else out there..and the reason I always ended up gaining it back plus some was because I went back to old eating habits..hopefully in the next few months I can get to my goal weight and maintain through habits I have learned with phen

I really think that at 17 and going on them was the beginning of the end for me. I truly feel that it ruined my metabolism. I think back in the late 70's early 80's you were suppose to be stick think. When I lost my weight I had a 19 inch waist and I was wearing a 0 which was very hard to find. My Mother even approached the doctor about my weight lost and he told her it was better for my health.

I think when you are young and being called "Chubby" by your own family doctor you begin to develop a complex and you feel if your not thin then your not beautiful. It's a shame that so many people have that mind set. Beauty should be healthy. It shouldn't be based on how thin you are.

I have tried everything under the sun this time to lose weight. Going on Phentermine was my last resort. No matter what I did I couldn't lose the weight. I had power walked every morning for 8 months straight and I didn't lose a pound. When I was done I was so hungry I would eat. I think the meds had a lot to do with it so I just couldn't get a handle on curbing my appetite. Now I feel that I can start back walking and feeling good about myself. Just with the self esteem issue I think once you start to see results you want to keep going. What's the old saying......"Nothing tastes as good as thin feels"

This is my first time on diet pills. I have been overweight all my life but never as big as I was last July. I have been on Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem, LA Weightloss, Weight Watchers, etc., and I am only 31 years old! I had short term success with all of those plans but always reverted back to old eating habits and gained again. Than by the time I had my second child I was pushing 300 pounds and that's where I stay until last July. I switched primary care doctors because my sister started working as a medical assistant at this new office so I figure I would have an easier time getting appointments, etc. I went to see my doctor and she basically told me I was killing myself. I was 30 years old at the time but had the internal body of a 45-50 year old. She said I either needed to lose weight or within 5-10 years develop diabetes, heart disease, etc.

She put me on phen-d and I never looked back. I feel like she basically saved my life. I am a healthy 179 pounds now (I am 5'9'') and while I would like to lose more, I would be perfectly content at this weight for the rest of my life. Phen-d has been a lifesaver for me.
