Dr says NO b12 shot

In reading all about the b12 shots, I went to my Dr yesterday and he said "NO" to the b12 shot He took bloodwork from me and told me that you can only get a B12 shot if your body needs it(low on b12) Anyhow, I wont find out until Monday the results to see if Im low, but he wont give it to me otherwise!! How did you all get yours? Did they do bloodwork first??

oh gosh! My bariatric dr didn't even do any bloodwork. I've gotten 2 b12 shots so far (one per month). The nurse even said I can come in once a week and get it if I come to a lull in my weightloss. They only seemed concerned with my blood pressure.
TammyLynn, if your body doesn't need it, that sounds like a good thing to me.

i don't take a B12 shot, but from what I've heard from others here on the board it's supposed to help boost your energy. so, i don't know why you would need blood work done for that?

again, I don't take it, so I might be wrong...this is just what i gathered from reading posts on the board...

My doctor really didn't tell me I needed a b12.. I just requested it. Even now I have to remind them of the b-12 shot.

He gave me the b-12 shot before my bloodwork even came back. I think your doctor might be afriad that you might have too much b-12 and that wouldn't be good.

My Dr. gave me the shot on my initial visit when he prescribed phen. I had not had any blood taken at that time and he informed me it would give me an energy boost.

Hi! That's different. No bloodwork for me. My Dr. offers B12, B-12/B-6 combo, or Lipotropics fat burner shot. I go & get a Lipotropics shot once a week.

Hello, I am looking for a doctor in Syracuse NY who will perscribe a diet pill. I used Phentermine after I had my last child 17 years ago to lose weight and due to a car accident, my new job, and quitting smoking I have gained 50 lbs in the last 3 years. I have tried weight watchers for the last 6 months and have lost faith after only losing 10 lbs. I can't find a dr who will prescribe any diet pills in the area I am sick and tired of the advise and nutrition crap. I want to lose the weight now not in 3 years. I can't stand the sight of my self in the mirror anymore and would appreciate the help. I will gladly see the doctor every few weeks for a weigh in and any advise he or she has. I know this will work for me as it has in the past. Thanks Tammy

That is really strange. I never heard of a doctor that refuses to give the B shot. I have read that whether you need or not, it is not toxic like some vitamins if you get too much.

My doctor wouldn't let me have them either. He said they were "a hoax, that it is just a way for weight loss clinics to make more money." I have to disagree with him because I know that Debethied and Momto8 have lost a lot of weight after getting these shots. However, he is totally content to give me Phen as long as I keep losing weight, but he laughed at the B-12 shots!

That's weird. I've never heard of that. You really can't have too much B-12 in your body. It's a water soluble vitamin. Whatever your body doesn't use, your body disposes of. Basically you pee it out. Unlike vitamin E which is fat soluble and sticks within your body causing toxic levels, your B levels can never become toxic. I did so much research on vitamins when I decided to home cook for my dog and the first thing you learn is what vitamins are riskier than others. B is like C, if your body doesn't use all of it, you body will get rid of it

I've been on phen since the end of last November and for the first time, I got a Lipo/B shot this month. I love it. I think it's working well. Do some research of your own and go in armed with information. He might be more willing to take your wants into consideration.

I got the lipo/B12 shot Friday and will get them weekly for another 11 weeks. I couldn't believe the energy it gave me for the first several days. I would love to get it twice a week... I would keep looking. The shots are the reason I chose my clinic because so many people I know had great success with the shots alone. I was very skeptical... but I was truly amazed by the energy.

I take the B-12 injection for multiple reasons: 1) Chronic & Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome 2) Weight Loss.
I agree with Steph-On-LI...if you don't need it, your body will not absorb it and you will pee it out!
I don't understand why some doctors are so against Vitamin B-12 injections...they are natural vitamins.
I never had any bloodwork done before taking the injection...just checking on the blood pressure.

If you are really interested, then I would either get a second opinion OR you can look for a weight loss clinic in your area!!

I agree with Steph-On-LI, B12 is water soluable, the excess will just flush out of your system. I do take the B12 shots at home 3 times a week. I go to the doctor once a week for the meds but to save on gas I take the shots hope. Took a little while to get use to self-injection, but I think it is worth it for the energy. Unfortunately my doctor does not offer the lipo/b12 shots. I do think those would help me greatly. I do not think they have helped me lose any weight but they are optional (at no extra charge) so I figure I can use all the help I can get! Oh by the way, I took my blood work from my reg. doctor to my nutritionist (weight loss doctor) so I would not have to pay for new bloodwork. I am paying out of pocket since my insurance does not cover the nutritionist.

Mine are included in my program... I pay $449 for 12 weeks and that includes my checkups, phen, weekly shots, counseling, etc. My clinic offers them outside the program for I think $60 for 4 shots.

I started my phentermine yesterday. At my doctors appt they offered me a B12 shot (without any blood work at all) but I decided to wait. I may get one later on if I find that I am at a stand still or something with the weight loss. I did however purchase a 1000 mg B12 vitamin from Walgreens and I will take those every morning, not sure if they are the same as the shot though.

I go to a weight loss clinic...they charge $35 for the initial visit and then $12 per B-12 injection and $15 per Lipo injection...so, with the two injections, I pay $27 a week and $10 a week for the Bontril. $37 a month is a bargain for helping to lose those unwanted pounds!

aww i'm sorry ur doc wouldnt give u a shot Thats how some doctors are though. Some don't perscribe diet pills b/c they think they r a waste of time. And some think that shots of vitamins are just a scam! But I remember reading on medhelp.com that a lot of people ordered vials of b12 and gave the shots to themselves. I'd be sort of nervous to do that, but do you have any friends that are medical professionals (nurses, med. assistants, etc..)? Maybe u could ask them to give you the shot. I hope it works out for you B12 has really helped me in so many ways. Its definitely given me energy to do stuff like exercise, or just do more stuff around the house.And come on! Who wouldn't like to have more energy?

I didn't know of a Lipo shot. When I started phen at a weight lose clinic they offered me the lipotropic capsules, which were great. I can only imagine what the lipo/B12 shot is like. I am going to call and make an appointment tomorrow. Thanks Girls.....
