Hey everyone, I have a qestion for those who take vitamins or fish oils. I started taking them about a week ago. Something, and im not sure what, is giving me some major stomach problems. I usually have problems with constipation, but not anymore. What do you think it is? Is it the fish oils? I take a pack of womens vitamins that consists of a multivitamin, calcium, primrose oil, vitamin E and one other, cant remember off hand. I was having problems with bruising, and have been known to get really anemic, so I figured it wouldnt hurt to start taking them. It kinda runs in my family, my mom and I have both been known to have to get shots of Iron when we were younger. I havent been bruising really lately, so I know it is helping, but this bathroom trot scenario is getting kinda old. In the past when I took iron it constipated me, so I am assuming it is the fish oil. I have an appt on the 18th to see my family practice doc, so I plan on talking to her then, but figured I would ask and get your alls opinions as I know some of you are taking some type of fish oil.

Good luck to everyone and thanks in advance for any opinions.

Hey Holly! I used to take salmon oil with GNC's women's multi...

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE GNC WOMENS MULTIVITAMIN!!!
It made me have to burp (???) and I would taste it ALL day, and believe me it was NASTY!

The fish oil though... I DO remember having some bathroom related effects... BUT I am not sure if it was from that specifically or just because I was taking all kinds of crazy supplements and eating on the Body-for-Life plan...

How much are you taking? and what kind? I do think they have alot of different ways you can get the fish oil now though... Maybe you just need to switch to another brand or method to see if it helps ya... OH do you eat alot of ruffage?? not sure if i spelled that right but u know like salad & spinach...etc...lol I know that stuff is great for dieting food, but It can really mess you up, esp if there are other contributing factors.

I'd say this is a good excuse for MORE cheese in your diet! Who doesnt like cheese?? lol

I forget... what is the fish oil good for??

OH BTW my friend over there said your town is like an hour away... Her husband and his guys are leaving for a new tour in Iraq in like 2 weeks. Hasnt your hubby just come back?

Hey Ashley!!!

The brand I am taking is YourLife, it is Natural Fish Oil Concentrate 1000 mg. The bottle says to take three a day, I take one. If it is the cause of my problem I couldnt imagine taking three. I heard that it helps boost your metabolism, is good for your heart, and helps burn fat. So, I started taking it. I am not at all a very healthy eater, I hate fish, and I know that it is good for you. I got it over here at our grocery, so, there isnt a lot to pick from.

As far as your friend being an hour away, that is cool. There are many Posts around us so it is hard to say which one she is at. I honestly cant wait to get out of here. Cant wait to move to California. Im nervous, but, I am also excited. Hoping we can get a house and I can find a good job.

Good hearing from you!!

I just wanted to pop in and mention this, since you said you are prone to being anemic.

My mother is the same way, and there have been a couple times in the past 6 years or so that its been so bad she was close to having to have a blood transfusion.
She tried everything to get her iron levels up- eating lots or red meat, eliminating a lot of the fiber from her diet (fiber henders iron absorption), eliminating tea, and eating lots of watermelon (helps with iron absorption). Nothing made a huge difference.

Well, we were in the health food store one day and asked the owner about it, and she said to take 2 tablespoons of black strap molasses every single day. IT WORKS. My mom has been doing that for a few years now and her iron levels have been in a great range with no exceptions since then.

Hi Holly , and Ashley

Holly I'm thinking more along the lines of it being the Primrose Oil, I had the same problem, to the point where I stopped taking it. It would keep me in the bathroom at odd hours of the night, I always take my supplements right before bed.

Fish Oil has many many benefits Ashley. It is especially good for brain power. If I were to take any supplement at all, it would be Fish Oils. One thing you have to be careful of is, some of the other supplements have more ingredients than the main one alone. For instance I take a CLA tablet, but it also has ALA, GLA, Omega 3,6,9's (which are fishoils)etc. If you take this AND fish oils you are going to get the foggy effect, which is horrible.

Hope to have helped just a bit. Holly if you can eliminate the Primrose itself, do that and see if it helps. I stopped mine and was better by the next day.

Currently, June 1st

Check your vitamins!!!!!!. what I mean by that is I was having the same problem and went to my doctor. I took the bottle of vitamins in the me so he could look at the ingreidants. He took one look at the pill and told me to follow these steps: put the vitamin in a glass of vinagar for 45 minutes. If the pill HAS NOT dissolved COMPLETELY- then STOP taking it. The reason is the body is not dissolving it either.(vinegar= human stomach acid) I did what he said and... the pill didn't even move!!!!. that told me that the pill was just sitting in my stomach. Try it. Hope it helps.

I used to take the women's muti vitamin from GNC and it made me sick. I heard the same thing if your vitamin does not disolve in a glass of water or vinegar you should not take it. Does anyone know a good women's multi vitamin? I was thinking of going to a Organic Health food store to buy some vitamins....any suggestions?
