Default OT - Kindergarten Anxiety?
My son started Kindergarten last Thursday, he was very excited during the parent/teacher orientation 2 days prior as well as the morning of the first day of school.
When we got to school he started crying (which is normal, as he did this when he started preschool) So I tried to reassure him that everything is ok and that he is a big boy and that Mommy and Daddy will back for him later. Well he vomited in the classroom!! Ok so we took him out of the room to clean him up, brought him back to class, calmed him down and left. I called the school about 15 min later and his teacher said he was doing great. Whew!! So that eased my mind.

The next day which was Friday, his father took him to school and he threw up again! This time he made it to the bathroom. Once again Daddy reassured him that everything is gonna be ok and he'll be back to pick him up later. Now I know that it is very scary for a child to start school, but is the vomiting normal? I know that when I am very stressed I also get very nauseous........but this is a first for my son.

Now my son is saying that he doesn't want to go back to the "Big Boy" school

Default yep its normal
fraid so.. is your son exceptionally perceptive as well as a caring child? does he have a good imagination.. or a stubborn streak . if so then yeah its completely normal. i have seen both of my childre as well as my nieces and nephews and my friends children go thru similar bouts. children make themselves so nervous or scared that they can make themselves sick. crazy isnt it!

Yup that's my boy, his imagination works overtime all day! And he is extremely perceptive!

Ok, well that's a relief! I feel so bad for him though because he is making himself so nervous! No one wants to see their baby so stressed

I may need to go to counseling once I make it through this

Thanks!

I am so sorry your son is getting sick at school. My daughter also started school last week and is having a hardtime.
They started Monday and she was fine Monday, but Tuesday was a different story. The teacher had to pull her off me Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. It was horrible. The teacher said she cried for about 5 min each time then she was fine!!!!! Now Friday was harder for her the teacher said she cried for about 5 min after I left then again later in the day as they were going to lunch. Now my daughter loved her pacifier and we didn't get her to give it up until she was 3 1/2. I have a 22 month son and he has a pacifier and since school started my daughter has been using one of his. She says she needs it and that her brother gave it to her because he knew she needed it. Well I let her use it Monday night then I took it away from her when she fell asleep, she started grinding her teeth, and it was bad. So anyway she is back to using a pacifier and she is 5. I know it is bad but I am trying not to make a big deal about it and hope she will give it up on her own. She is having a hard time with school because it is so long and they don't get any rest time. This is a child that hasn't taken a nap since she was 3 and she asked the teacher Monday when nap time was So you and your son aren't alone I think it is normal but man it sure does break your heart doesn't it?

I know this wearing me out and I am actually NOT looking forward to Tuesday when he goes back. My son also mentioned nap time. This is the same little boy who I have to fight with sit still for a while let alone take a nap! Anyway I can't want until it gets better, cuz I am whooped! We signed him up for afterschool karate also, his first day is Tuesday so hopefully that will help with his self confidence ((((fingers crossed))))

His bedtime is at 8pm and we'll be getting up at 7am also, his father will be taking him to school, lord knows this boy is not ready to ride the bus just yet. I hope next week is better also, which maybe it will be since they will start their first complete week of school next week. Kinda bring back the routine of going to school everyday again.

I have a four and a half year old who did the same thing when he started pre-school...and he use to do it EVERY TIME we took him to the nursery at church...omg...it was such an ordeal...and he did throw up the first day of school...I felt awful...he also did the crying thing and every once in a while he "acts" upset when I take him...he only goes M,W,F from 9-3...and it is the first time he has been in this type of environment...he has been home with me since he was born, which was one of the reasons we got him involved in pre-school...he really needed to learn how to interact with other children...well....he loves it now...but it WAS a process..
Now...my two and a half year old...is starting with THE SAME THING when he is dropped off at his class at church...to the point we usually get called out of service to come and sit with him...sigh....
So...Just wanted to let you know that it is very normal...we are all experiencing it...good luck to you all, your nerves and your hearts....
