Well, it's hurricane season once again. Right now everyone around here is preparing for Gustav. They are projecting it will hit the central area of Louisiana, but it could push west toward Texas. I feel like we're experiencing hurricane Rita all over again. That was a nightmare 3 years ago. We were without electricity for 6 days and the temperatures hit 100 degrees. I spent one miserable night here at home trying to sleep naked with the window open while sweating like a pig. After that, I went to my mother-in-law's and parent's houses because they had electricity. My husband was afraid someone would come loot us, so he spent every night sleeping in a pup tent on our back deck with the gun at his side (typical redneck). I hope everyone in it's path stays safe. Here's the projected path as of this morning. I live just west of the top black dot.

Here's a comparison between what Rita did 3 years ago versus what they are projecting Gustav will do.

yes this is crazy im in la, im evacuating today, it makes me sad because hubby is from here and he was military when we met in nc. so im not use to all this. we just bought our home and im hoping we dont lose it. i have my 2yr old and 9 month old so i have to drive thru congested traffic and go somewhere. hubby refuse to leave (marine mentality) anyways i plan to keep up with you guys thru my cell. I have to stay focused on my weight so i dont worry too much about whats happening at home. I hope you stay safe Lori.

My mom has evacuated from the SE Texas area and is coming here to Cypress. We will decide if we will go on to Austin tomorrow. As of now, many hotels are booked in the North/Northwest Texas areas. My mom didn't evacuate for Rita and she is hysterical, so.. I bought some wine and will try get to get her drunk. At least then, I can think about our plan.

Just be safe. We will be thinking of everyone in the danger zone. A lot of shelters being set up. Red Cross has a lot of moble food/supplie trucks at a staging area.

u guys will all be in my prayers!!! I live in the mid-atlantic region so this sort of stuff doesnt happen up here. The last time I remember we even had something like this occur was Hurricane Isabel back in `03 and I think it was a tropical depression or something by the time it hit my area. I hope all of you will be safe and evacuate just as a pre-caution.

Yeah, they said all the hotels here are booked up. I can totally understand your mom being hysterical. Hurricane Rita was a biotch. We never expected her to do so much damage to our little east Texas town. She ripped shingles off of our roof, completely knocked over our storage shed, took the tops off of some of our trees in the yard and blew my husband's boat shed into the neighbor's horse pasture. I just hope they have the evacuation routes planned out a lot better this year. I have a friend that was living in the Channelview area 3 years ago and it took them 18 hours to drive here and that is normally just a little over a 2 hour drive. Thanks to everyone who is praying for us. And Kim, that wine idea sounds like a good one to me. I've got a couple of bottles here.....LOL.

I'm pretty quiet around here, but still on phen and browsing the board. I'm just north of New Orleans, lost my roof from Katrina (Katrina hit us right on), but we are higher and haven't flooded. This time we are staying. I just hate wondering if my boys could be hurt. Since Katrina we have cut all our trees down. That track that was moved more west away, seems to be updated to come closer this way more east, looks like it'll be a close one. Good luck to all those are getting any weather from this. Hopefully once phones go down, we'll still have DSL going like after Katrina. Internet helps our sanity. Thanks, Mary
