OK.........I would like to know at what age you let your daughter, or will let your daughter shave her legs.

My poor baby girl is 10 and has the hairiest damn legs . She gets made fun of all the time and refuses to wear shorts. She begs me to let her shave them, but I think she's still too immature to be able to do it.

What are your experiences, or comments?

My mom didn't let me until I was 12. That was also 16yrs ago. Times may have changed. HAHA! I don't think she ever would have taught me if i hadn't made her! My mom also was terrible about not keeping sharp razors for my sister and I. So we have a lot of embarrassing scars to prove it. My daughter Amelia is only one. But when she thinks she is old enough to shave, I plan on getting her a rechargeable ladies shaver. They are much safer. You can hardly cut yourself w/ one. (actually I have never been able too) They're not to expensive considering you don't have to replace them as often as disposable. Or I guess you can give her some magic powder! Just teasing!

ROFLOL.....Magic Powder huh? I have contemplated the best form of hair remover for her. Electric razor, nair......just dunno. I was 12 also, but didn't have permission to shave yet. I set down with a bowl of water and a disposable razor......no soap or cream, just water. Boy was that a mistake!!!!!!!! At least I got to experience razor burn right away so I knew for damn sure not to do that again! So, after that, mom had to let me keep shaving. LOL

My daughter will be 14 in October (8th grade) and she first used Nair two weeks ago, but the reason I never addressed the shaving issue was because she was homeschooled. She went back to school now in 8th grade. I think once they reach 6th grade, or 7th at the latest, it's okay.

I don't have any daughters(I am so glad..lol) but I can understand her reasoning for wanting to shave already. If she's getting teased because of the hair on her legs, then maybe it's time to teach her. Her being teased because of hairy legs is no different than teasing someone whose overweight...it can cause self-esteem issues. You could always shave them for her while you're explaining the process and that she'll have to shave forever(lol) after that first time.

Just my 2 cents...

Oh, and I wanted to add about the Nair, it worked GREAT on my daughter. She was pretty hairy, almost 14 years of no shaving, and it all just washed right off! It was great. I also have an electric shaver that works really well without you having to worry about her cutting herself.

My baby girl is in 5th grade. Did the nair irritate your daughter at all? Did it take care of all the hair? I can't use nair because it burns. And it never gets all my hairs.

NEVERMIND.................LOL

Goth, I have never thought of it that way. Now your gonna make the phen make me cry. My poor baby girl..........I certainly don't want her to have self-esteem issues! Thank you very much for your 2 cents. It was worth more than that!

She did say it burned a little, but not enough to make her cry or anything. She is pretty sensitive too. Should would let me know if it bothered her enough that she didn't want to use it anymore.

DON'T CRY!! I have 3 boys(and never wanted a girl..too much pink). I just remember what it was like being teased about my height(I'm 5' 1") and mostly about my boobs(was a Dcup by 7th grade..now a DDcup).

I started shaving in the 5th grade! I think it'd be okay to teach her how to shave. My first razor was one of those gillete things that came in a kit with like blades and some satin shave cream stuff. But in all honesty, the only razor I can use without cutting myself is the schick quatro. It has lil wires crossing the blades and it keeps from cutting you. They are expensive...but well worth it to me!!

Goth.....I'm not into the pink thing either. My baby girl is a skater/rocker chick....oh yeah!!! But, still has her girly moments, like this shaving thing.

Sassy.......you started in 5th grade huh? I would be so scared to give her a razor and cream. Were you able to keep up with the shaving at that age?

I myself use a mens razor. I have always thought that they shave better then ladies razors.

Parents all do things differently. As soon as my daughter started asking, we sat down and talked about it. When she gave me her reasoning, I decided it was reasonable. No kid wants to be teased. And, the way I see it, if my daughter (who is 17 and in college now) took an interest in personal hygiene, well, all the better for her and I. Additionally, the last thing I wanted was to say no and have my daughter go over to a friend's house and do it OR pick up my razor and do it without talking to me about it first.

Not far behind and/or some time right around shaving legs, we discuss b.o. and the need for deodorant. I definitely wanted to talk her through that before it was obvious. I'm not going to lie. Girls grow up so fast these days. If you go to school and see 5th grade girls, some of them are wearing bras as big as mine!
He's the man at our house!
