Okay, so my parents had their first real visit at the clinic today. Dr put them both on 25mg of Tenuate 2x a day. Primarily because of high blood pressure but I have that too, maybe it's their age? She also put my dad on Glucophage, which I took for PCOS, and didn't like at ALL... she said he is stage 4 of metabolic resistance syndrome... So now I worry, I have hyped up the Phen and how I felt, but I worry they won't feel the same or have the same effects... anyone have any recent experience with this?

I've never heard of it. Is the price comparable to phen?

I don't know... it's included. It's supposed to be not as strong as Phen.. .it's been around as long as phen. I have seen some say it worked for them and some say it didn't but without knowing how they were eating, it's hard to gauge ya know? I guess she wouldn't give it if it didn't work... I just really hope it does, they are really so excited, I would hate to see it not curb their appetites and give them energy...

If it doesn't work for them, will they give them something else? Or can they work their way up to phen?

I'm really not sure... she sees them on 9/12 for a follow up. She put them on the same diet plan as me but of course dad gets more. She has them exercising less (3x a week rather than 5-6)... I think it has more to do with age, health history, etc. She has my dad doing a stress test also... it's probably a safety thing, but I just want it to work for them...

Just keep in mind that because they are older, they may not be able to do all that you can (Medicine wise) and yea you talked it up alot to them, but we all know that everyone has different results.
So let's just let the doctor do her job and see what happens... Meanwhile, you keep being the absolutely fabulous daughter/supporter that you are to them and we'll do our part by keepin you all in our thoughts and prayers ![]() Keep us posted babe... and btw... I don't think i've said this before, YOU ARE GORGEOUS!!!!

Hey there...I know the feeling you are experiencing...my mom finally got her script for the phen...I hope it works for her...she really needs this to work....and if it doesnt..I'll feel responsible....
I wonder if at their next apt..or if they are not "feeling" any results from the different meds within the next couple of days if they could at least start on a lower dosage of the Phen?.... Please keep us updated..I am rooting for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Sleventis, I am wishing your mom lots of luck as well!! PLease keep us posted, I have my fingers crossed for her!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that... I hope that with the strict diet they will be on, and sheer determination, that this will help them... I really truly hope so.

Hi cruisegirl I have a friend who is on 30 mg Phen in the mornings and Tenuate in the afternoons. She has lost a ton of weight with this combo and loves it. I talked to my Dr about it yesterday but they said maybe later on when I feel like the effects of Phen arent working as strong for me. I also wanted to tell you that you look just like my cousin Angie. If your hair were a little darker you two would be twins

I am on Tenuate and to tell the truth for me I don't get near as hungry, as a matter of fat i forget to eat... the one thing that i noticed i don't get the energy from it like i had with the Phen. I had the headaches ! I am on 75 mg once a day... The dotor i go to said that the side effects are about the same as with Phen just no as bad.
I have had somewhat good results with it but i forget to take it sometimes I have been really given myself from taken any diet meds. But its safe i think i mean i wouldn't take it if my docc hadn't thought i needed to be off the phen for a while to give my body a break. He also put me on a lasix ( water pill). Hope everything goes ok for your parents |

You are such a great daughter Cruise. Like Mrs. B said it may work lets breathe, pray, and weight. Even though she has them working out 3 x's per week instead of 5-6 doesn't mean additional walking in conjunction with any aerobic activity cannot be added unless your parents suffer from blood clots in their legs which may cause pain during long periods of activity. Walking counts to. You did not set them up for failure. You stepped in and gave them hope. I personally believe that one's health is heavily dependent on one's state of mind (obviously there are some conditions that are exceptions). Your supporting them in this part of their life's journey has benefited them and lifted their spirits. They are going to be healthier, stronger, and more lively just from the exercise and diet. You did the right thing. Don't get discouraged. Be encouraged and encouraging. You are their best ally. You know what they will be going through because you went through it on your journey.

You are so sweet!!!! And you are right, they were just saying that they were going to get additional walks in. She doesn't want my dad doing weights until he loses 20 lbs for some reason... so he is listening to her. I am thankful that they went, and I know it will change their lives!!! Thanks for your kind words!!

Cruise..
i think it is great that you are doing this with your parents..they sound adorable..... I have heard of tenuate but I don't know much about it. I'm not sure why the diet doc I go to doesn't prescribe it..he just prescribes phen or phendimetrazine............ I'm sure your parents will do fine on it, and the doctors have their reasons for putting them on the tenuate instead. My mom is taking glucophage and she gained weight from it.....she really needs to lose weight but has bp issues so I think any type of diet pill is out of the quesiton for her.

Thanks Scat! I'm hoping dad doesn't gain on the glucophage... they put them on Tenuate primarily because of dad's BP issues and family history of heart disease (his father died in his early 50's)... so that might be an option for your mom?
I introduced dad to Sparkpeople for tracking his meals, etc. He is completely obsessed, LOL!!! He is so funny over there.... I made him a veggie burger (mushroom) for lunch and he really liked it... and he is shocked that at the end of the day he'll only be at 800 cals, so I'm trying to help him out a little... but I love seeing him excited, he is going to ROCK this program. I worry about mom a little... she doesn't have much to lose though, but she may not stick as close to it as dad will... but he needs to stick with this, as he said, his very life depends on it...
