    Question

Having worked with them for many years, I sometimes wonder. Let me back up...
7 months ago, I experienced horrible pain in my abdomen, this "moved" from one side to the other, then up the chest. The pain was so bad that I couldn't stand or walk, On vacation, of course. Major S u c k a g e. Went to ER (hubby dragged me there.) Pain meds, "go home and follow up with primary doc." Fine. Pain moves up to right shoulder and neck. Total of one week later, pain is gone, all but some residual in the lower aspect of rib cage. Primary doc says infection, anti-inflammatory... yada yada yada. Went to doctor yesterday, as I have still been experiencing pain in the lower rib area, intermittently. He has no clue. "Go see sports medicine/orthopedic doc". He even mentions a possible rib fracture! WHAT? I have had NO TRAUMA! I'll see him on the 24th with x-rays before hand. Question: Anyone ever known someone who had a "floating rib" fracture and not know it, let alone take over 6 months to heal? Just wondering. And venting. Frustrated! Never know when it will "flare" up. Sometimes physical activity makes it act up, and sometimes not. I love to run, and am feeling robbed. I've been running anyway, and again, it doesn't always hurt!! Sorry about the book....

Unless you have brittle bones I would venture to guess that you would have to have trauma to crack a rib. I agree with Dumbfox and would question the gallbladder if you still have yours. It could explain why it first occurred on vacation if you were eating richer/spicier foods than you are used to. If you don't have your gallbladder then you can still get some sludge in the duct that can give similar symptoms of a gallbladder attack.

You could have a problem with your appendix or gallbladder. I just had a problem with left side pain, went to ER and was sent home with pain meds and no help. After searching for doctor to help (mine was out of town), a urologist said that I had a kidney infection and had to be put in the hospital for two nights. I still hurt but he said that if I didn't get help when I did my kidney would be dead now. It is so scary, so if you don't agree with the doctor just keep pushing for answers. I am a nurse so I knew something was wrong but I think anyone that is still unsure about a diagnosis should question it. Hope that helps.

These symptoms sound EXACTLY like what my roomie had... They also gave her the run around. Not saying it is what it is, but she was finally diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. Might wanna check into it...

Thanks for all of your replies. Sorry I was so pithy yesterday. No, I had my gallbladder removed 5 years ago, I didn't even have sludge or stones then. It just quit "squeezing" out bile, so it was like it was constipated! Anyway, feels too superficial. I ran 6 miles yesterday, and it don't hurt this a.m. Sports injury my booty. Well, I guess maybe it could be, who knows? Apparently not my doctor. I will see the specialist on the 24th, and we'll see then, I guess. Again, thanks for your responses and ideas, I appreciate having you all to vent to and to chat at. Happy Friday!!

Ulcers!! Those are the symptoms that I had. You would think that they would only affect your stomach area, but I would have never guessed that is what I had. Pain in the shoulders, a ton in the back, pains that felt like deep deep hunger pains ugh it ****ed. You don't have to be stressed out to get them either. Mine were from stress, but you can also get them from H pylori bacteria that gets into your system. I thought I was having chest pains because I didn't realize how high my actual stomach was in my abodomen. I actually went to the hospital thinking it was my gallbladder because I was having the same symptoms my friend had with hers, but nope had 2/3 of my stomach filled with ulcers. Hope you find out what is going on. Floating ribs are in such a weird place, it seems weird to have broken one of those. Plus exercise will kick up ulcer pain, actually anything will.
