Unhappy Are you an addict?
"Hello. My name is Cindy, and I'm a junkfoodaholic."

Little Debbie oatmeal cakes, potato chips, cookies, pop tarts... you name it and I love it. I know I've only been on Phen 2 days now. For most of the day, it works great... no problem. I have to make myself eat. But towards the evening, I start craving junk food. So, I'm wondering if my body will give up and quit craving sugar? I wish there was some 12 step process I could work through to become a recovering junkfoodaholic. When these cravings eventually go away?
Cindy

Have you tried taking half the pill in the am and half in the pm? that helps or maybe taking it later in the day? I'm a late day eater myself so I usually don't take it too early.

I agree. Although you wanna be careful taking it too late cuz it could keep you up, or so I have heard.

When my cravings are out of control, I go as low carb as possible in a day or two the cravings disappear.

By no means am I promoting junkfoodaholism but have you tried low-cal snacks? Those little 100 calorie snacks? And I'm sure you can find some good junkfood at your local healthfood store. That way you won't go cold turkey and break out the hen house straight to the sugar cane fields. Your cravings may subside but not necessarily go completely away...mine haven't. I drink a cup of coffee w/ vanilla creamer w/ a tsp. of sugar and plenty of fruit. That helps me a lot with my sugar craving. And when I crave salt I eat Nutrisystem Soy Cheddar & BBQ chips or nuts.

Cindy-
There are many different reasons we crave junk food. One reason I do is because of my depression. Eating yummy foods like that gives us a quick seratonin release and then we want it more and more. Also, eating those things often makes you really hungry again, pretty fast. Food in this day and age is also just like drugs in alcohol in the way that people turn to it to 'get away' from their problems. It's really a combination of things and I am struggling with that too. What has helped me the most is educating myself on what *really* happens to our bodies. Find books and read up on it. Knowing you could have a heart attack or whatever just doesn't cut it. The details are important. As I've been skipping the junk food I definitely am craving it less. My body is slowly learning how good it feels when I put in the fuel that it can actually use. Good luck.

Happy Texas - My doc put me on Dual Source Chromium to carb my sweet tooth because I
am just like you...My whole weight problem stems from sour, salty, sweet yummies in the evenings..
I have most of my life eatin half decent during the day..it's the evenings that the junk food monsters
start calling for me to come to the kitchen..I bet come 6 in the evening when I'm walking through the
kitchen door I look like Fat******* from the Austin Powers movie, saying "GIT IN MAH BELLEH"...

I've been on the phen and chromium for 3 weeks now and I can honestly say that I've had no more than
100 calories from sweets or any kind of junk food since beginning...sooo, the Dual Source Chromium
must be working for me...

Maybe ask your doc or clinic for a prescription of them...I think they were
only like $6.00 at my pharmacy...You can buy Chromium Picolanate across the counter but it's not as
strong as the prescribed ones...

Awesome advice MomKat!
I'm being treated for depression so that definitely has helped me not to indulged in junk food. But when TOM comes around and the cravings kick in, I try to make healthy choices when it comes to snacking. The one coffee a day is a vast improvement. I used to do 4 cups and that was just at work! As understanding and reading up on my behavior as it pertains to the misuse of food, reading the book "Healing the Hurt Within : Understand and Relieve the Suffering Behind Self-Destructive Behaviour" by Jan Sutton was a great help to me.

i don't have any medications that keep my cravings at bay, but i've just made a conscious decision that it had to stop! i was like you....little debbies, pop tarts....all my favorites! i just quit buying them. instead i would buy grapes, yogurt....believe it or not pudding and ice cream sandwiches really aren't so bad for you! plus, i would drink water like you would not believe! when you see the weight coming off you will realize that it's just not worth it. if i do things like i should the scale goes down each day, but i go on a binge and it goes RIGHT up the next day.......i got tired of that. you'll figure it out!

I've never been a huge craver of sweets, but salty things is what I crave. When my doc put me on phentermine he also gave me lexapro as he has seen some pretty strong research which indicates that those that are hungry more often tend to produce less seratonin. So the anti-depressant keeps me from reaching for food for my seratonin fix.

Also, I know you don't like exercise, but I find I crave less when I actually get out in the sun and get my heart pumping I'm sure that helps increase my seratonin levels naturally! Even a nice walk helps with it!

Me, me me!!! Yes, my name is Amanda and I am addicted to junk!
*crowd drones, Hello Amanda!* lol

I am a binge eater. I can eat and eat and eat and not even remember it! Like a black out drunk! I crave sweets and carbs. The phen really helps though. I can tell (by the snickers I ate....) that I didn't take it today. I think I am going to start doing 1/2 and 1/2 tomorrow.

Welcome to the group! You can and will have success!

Thanks for all the good advice. The next time I go to the doctor I'll ask about the chromium. Thin4good, I do hate exercise, but this morning, my husband got up and went walking with me. We pushed our daughter in our stroller and the three of us walked 4 miles. Now, if I can just convince myself to do that at least three times a week

Momkat- is there a basic book that you would recommend?

My problem is a very bad sweet-tooth. It gets me every(every!!!) time. But since Ive been on the Phen I havent really had too hard of a time. Mainly because theres several days Im having to make myself eat. of course every now and then I have a small cookie or grapes which grapes and oranges work really well for me and my sweet cravings. of course I dont eat a cookie everyday, cause Ive been battling losing more weight. I also just take between one pill a day or only a half. but I have found that I cant take my pill any later than 1030 am because Im up till 1 or 2am and having to force myself to sleep.

I don't buy sweets, because I know that I will eat them. However.... If there is cake around, I will eat it until I alomst throw up. There is no such things as "rich" food to me. I can eat an amount of cake that would make most people barf.
