i would say definitely it counts! yard work makes ya sweat, and that's a plus for exercise. my husband has a landscaping business, and he's lost like ten pounds since the season started. he's already small anyway, but he works so hard and for so long that he's lost weight from that alone. i HATE yard work so luckily i don't have to do any!

I would definately say yes. I have been pulling weeds, mowing, and trimming hedges all day. I am so exhausted and I believe that I sweat more doing this then excercise.

I can smell 155!!!!!!!!!!!!

It better count as exercise! This Spring my sister and I bagged 76, yes that's 76 bags of leaves. I have a huge yard with a lot of trees...lol We bagged them, dragged them to the end of the yard and piled them high. I definitely counted it as exercise...I'd never been so sore in my life.

It sure does count, you probably used more muscles cutting down that bush than you would in a regular workout. Plus, you got some sun, all in all, a good workout.

Odd woman out here and this is why.

Yeah yeah ... it burns calories .. but I swear there are stats out there that even show sitting at a computer & watching tv burns calories

The real question is that going to make you tone and lose weight? Obviously, a lot of seditary people that are "burning calories" are not losing weight.

One day of this or that, I don't think so. So I don't count it as exercise, (or add up how many calories burned etc) however in your case where you normally are doing physical activity it will probably average out for the day.

Here are my thoughts on ANY kind of movement.....IT ALL COUNTS! Anytime you are moving around that you normally in day to day life wouldnt do, IT COUNTS! I have been on crutches for 3 weeks now and I am counting it since it is equivilent to walking at 4MPH. So I count part of it but not all of it.

So if you do not do it on a daily basis count it!!!

It counts for me! We have a really big yard and it takes me about 2 hours to mow the grass, weedeat, etc. I am the one who does the yard work (not my husband) because it is such great exercise! I love yard work!

My husband put on his heart rate monitor (keeps track of calories burned, target heart rate, etc) and he burned over 700 calories doing the yard. He is in really good physical condition and about 200 lbs.

Heck yes! Any type of "activity" where you are off you butt counts as some type of exercise. I heard that from a nutritionist on the Today show. Just MOVE she said.
