Went Dr. yesterday he refused to prescribe Phen

I cried all the way home. (haven't done that in a while cuz I try to be a strong girl all the time) I have gained 70lbs in three years becouse of my thyroid. I am ready to give up and just never look in a mirror agian! Is there anything over the counter I can get that might have the same effects as Phen? Somebody please help me! I watch what I eat and try to get myself moving but I am starving all the time.

Hoodia might be worth trying? I've never used it, but I've heard good things about it. BUT another option is to get a second opinion. You can change doctors or you can look for a clinic that specifically deals with weight loss. I don't think they turn anyone away unless you have a heart condition. So just Google "weight loss clinic" and your location... you never know, there could be a clinic right around the corner. That's what happened to me! Good luck!!

... yeah i agree... there are weight loss clinics everywhere .. even if you have to drive a lil.. its worth it to me anyways.. my dr said NO too.. o well lol i went to clinic and they did EKG, blood panel, and BP they said i Aok to go soo i started takin them i have to drive to SC but i live basically on state line soo not that bad my drive is about 35 mins sooooo its groovy

i hope you explore your options...

and i have taken lots of "diet pills" i have taken NOTHING that compares w/ phen/adipex ... sooo dont know what to tell ya bout that.. sorry

Hi Scarlip,

Im sorry to hear that. Phen really can help a lot of people so its too bad that some MD's just either dont believe in it or maybe dont know that much about it. Not that im telling you to go behind your MD's back, but what about a weight loss cllinic? A different Doc? Your OBGYN?

Phen didnt work for me, but my MD believes these pills can be a great assistance. He is willing to try other meds till we find whats right for me. Its not a miracle pill, but can be a great little help w/ diet & exercise.

Go to your local weight loss clinic. Almost all the general practitioners here in my town refuse to prescribe it, but we have 2 weight loss clinics that do.

There are lots of doctors out there. If yours wont give it to you then go to another doctor. I went to a weight loss clinic. It is not as exspensive as you might think. I pay 90 dollars a month for my doctor visit and 60 phen. He perscibes me two a day but i can only take one a day so i always have a month extra left over. That way i can stop seeing him in few monthes and still have a a few monthes of phen left and that will save me some money also.
If i went to a regular doctor my insurance would not cover it anyway and it would cost a lot more. If the phen stops working for me he has other meds that he can give me in it's place. My regular doctor would only give me phen for six weeks anyway and he made me come see him every two weeks and it cost me $75 every two weeks for the med and the doctor office visit.

My friend was in the same boat. She went to 4 docs and none of them would give her phen. So she went to Wal-Mart and bought 'NV"... it's got hoodia, greentea... natural... anyways... she took that. It was $20/bottle.... I can't remember how many were in there and how long it lasted her. BUT she did it for 8 months & lost 60 lbs.... She was also working out an hour a day 6 days per week, and ate 6 tiny meals a day. She took the supplement 2 tablets 1/2 hour before brkfst, lunch & dinner with 8 oz of water or more. It worked for her. I didn't try it. But she went down from 235lbs-175lbs... she has stopped taking it and is just focusing on eating & working out and she is now down to 160. As of July, it would be a year for her.

Hey. Dont Worry. I know how you feel, my obgyn told me the same thing, "you are overweight, but I can't prescribe the phentermine to you". You can get them online without a prescription at Absolutelythin.com . The Dr, that prescribes them, his name is Dr. Branch.They provide consultation and everything. They are a legit place. They have people, like dieticians that you can call and speak to. I think that you may be able to speak to dr branch over the phone. There is a picture of the Dr on the site. His practice is very similar to a bariatric clinic. I was gonna purchase phen from him but there is a bariatric clinic that I go to that is just up the street from my house. The prices are about the same, although I have heard that he went up a little bit in price, but of course its well worth it.

I used Hoodia and it is great! I loved it. I didn't take it as directed though. I took two in the morning and one in the afternoon and that was it. Gave me lots of energy and with the diet and excersise I am doing I lost about 20 lbs in 3-4 mths. Works fabulously but it seemed to stop working after the 4th month for me. I hit a major plateau and that is why i'm switching to phen. Hopefully anyway. Appt is on July 1st!

I agree with what the other here have said, and know exactly how you feel! I went to my Ob/Gyn yesterday and while I was there talked to her about phen. She said she wouldn't prescribe it (it was a personal preference for her; a couple of patients she prescribed it to in the past had major problems) but suggested that my best bet would be to contact a doctor who deals with weight loss as s/he would be better able to tailor something that would work best for me.

Unfortunately, we live in an area where the closest weight loss clinic is about 90 minutes away. Since the checkups are just once a month, though, I'm willing to make the trek
