Dont be suprised if they make you choose. Accutane is a very serious drug. it can cause liver damage and wreak havok on your system. (hence the reason behind all the testing and Birth control im sure they are making you do during the time you take it.) be aware that your acne will come back when you go off of it. You are better off taking the antibotic and the creams. If used consistantly, it will even clear up the worst cystic acne. Believe me.. i know. Im not using anything but the cream right now. I wasnt allowed to even take the antibotic and phen together. You never know, they may let you. For now im working on one problem at a time. I figured there is always makeup, but wearing a girdle everyday is NOT an option.

I'm going on my 4th month of Accutane (well Amnesteem, the generic) and have been on phen of and on for about a year now. there are no interactions on the internet, and I told both my doctors what im on...and trust me, I was really freaked out about all the interactions since i take a few other medications as well, and i know that accutane is hard core. My dermatologist said they should not interact with each other. I take my phen in the morning and my accutane in the eavening with dinner. Here is a GREAT website that i learned a lot from before i went on accutane... acne.org
and i went to the derm and knew just about all he did before he put me on it. any more ?'s just ask, i will help the best i can.

When you first started accutane was your face itchy and oily. If so how long did it last.

not oily that i can remember, might have been for the first couple of days though. a little itchy which it still is if i dont put lotion on it. your face and your lips will eventually fall off if you dont moisten them the number one thing i learned from looking at tons of message boards, is, go to the store, go to the lotion isle, and buy yourself a tube of Aquaphor (by lubiderm, or whatever it is) you will NEED this for your lips by the end of month one...

My cystic acne would not go away with regular antibiotics (and I've been on all of them) and creams. I've had them cut open and drained too(left alot of scars; still the cysts came back). The only thing that got rid of them was Accutane.

I've done 2 sessions. Its been about 6 years since my last cycle and I haven't broken out with cysts since then. I do break out with 1-2 small pimples around my menstrual cycle, but nothing major.

I remember the 1st time I took it, I was really dry and red bumps came out everywhere. After a week, they started to go down. Then I was able to cover them up with make up to finish the session. Then the 2nd session, I was oily and it last a good month. I'm not sure why it was different from the first time, but I didn't care, I was thankful the cysts were gone and my face wasn't hurting anymore.

Accutane is a risky drug, but it worked on me and I would take it over again, if I needed too.

i never really had the whole "innitial break out" thank goodness. my normal ones that would come were more defined though. and it took them sooooooo much longer to heal if i even picked/popped them even once.

    Dear Imapixie,
did you notice any interactions between accutane and phentermine? Did your skin clear up despite taking the phentermine? I've been seeing a lot of people commenting on how phentermine is causing cystic acne in them, so was wondering how the combination worked for you.

    Thanks!

Wow, this hits close to home.
I took Accutane ten years ago, in high school - holy shiit, I've been out of high school for ten years *cry* - and would like to take it again. It's unbelievable (unacceptable?) that my face breaks out this badly at the ripe old age of 26. I do blame the phen, but now that I've been off it for a month and the acne is still here, Accutane seems worth considering again.

Perhaps you should give Accutane a try once the Phen is out of your system. Three months is all the doctor will prescribe of Phen for most people. It's not too long to wait when the alternative is a lifetime of pizza face!
